With many applications becoming more reliant on interaction by voice, I'd like to be able to signal to the IME that the input should start in that mode and therefore begin listening immediately.

My suggested additional parameter:

android:inputType="voice"

When commuting I would some times like to add a bookmark to the audio book I am listening to, but I want it to go immediately to voice recognition, rather than an additional click, that would be nice.

+1 It was a great enhancement to triggering keyboard. Doing voice recognition with gboard is also better than most voice recognition (maybe because gboard also have its own dictionary of frequents used vocab). It also better because it came with option for user to choose
