Version used: 25.3.0
Theme used: N/A
Devices/Android versions reproduced on: API 13 and below

As per the documentation of SwitchCompat (

https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/v7/widget/SwitchCompat.html) "SwitchCompat is a version of the Switch widget which on devices back to API v7.". The new 25.3.0 drops support for everything below API 14. This also means that widgets and views building on SwitchCompat also produce error, such as SwitchPreferenceCompat in support preference-v7.

The support lib revisions page does not contain any info about deprecation nor removal of this element from API (7-)9-13 devices. If it is not being supported on devices below API 14, the appropriate classes should be modified to implement a different widget or a custom implementation.

. As mentioned in the comments there, try:
As a temporary workaround, try turning off Preferences > Compiler > Use External Build.
