Completely agree. I just installed the update on my tablet - very annoying.

100% agree with this.
I understand why we have swipe: because in the new UI design with the notification lists you need a way to ensure the notification list is out of the way before you display e.g. the PIN pad.
However, for users like me who a) do not even want the notifications in a list in the first place and b) just find swipe to be an irritating extra step, we can come up with a better solution.
For example, create a new notifications option to show notifications "At top of screen" (as they were before and where I would prefer them), and then so long as this option, or no notifications, was the notification option, and a security option (e.g. PIN) is set, then show an extra option to turn off swipe.
Please, UI people, stop adding additional steps to a workflow we execute dozens of times daily.

Yes, agreed. A step has been added which is utterly pointless if you have notifications turned off. I used to like my phone, now I have to work twice as hard to use it
tu...@gmail.com <tu...@gmail.com> #7
I agree! Create a new notifications option to show notifications "At top of screen" (as they were before).
I want to quickly be able to see if I have a new notification, but I don't want all the details to be there for everyone else to see.
If I wanted everyone to see my notifications, I would have bought an iPhone.
Also, allow us to set if we want the ability to quick launch the phone or camera from the launch screen (I don't). I am very use to quickly swiping my phone to unlock it. However, with the change in lollipop, I end up in the phone or camera where I don't want to be.

+1 I hate that the most common action I take on my phone is now two swipes instead of one
an...@gmail.com <an...@gmail.com> #9
Someone shoot me already. This is agonizing. Plus they got rid of lock screen widgets so I can see annoying notifications but I can't see my calendar.
Would buy the oneplusone that gives me flexibility to avoid Google's draconian idiocy (this same decision was made to format text in Gmail, made the most common feature 2 clicks instead of the older one), but the phone is huge.

I agree. The 'notification lock screen' needs to be bypassed when the notifications are set to "don't show notifications at all". The need to swipe up just in order to access the PIN/Pattern screen is unnecessary. Since I have my notification settings set to not display on display on notification lock screen, when I wake my phone I should see the notifications at the top like I did in KitKat and my PIN/Pattern screen should be displaying.
al...@gmail.com <al...@gmail.com> #11
Totally agree with this. It's awful to have swipe, then pattern lock. There is an extra step now that didn't exist before. I want to go directly to the pattern lock!
da...@gmail.com <da...@gmail.com> #12
Ditto.. Please don't make basic functionality involve more steps to just to accommodate some other feature.
to...@gmail.com <to...@gmail.com> #13
I agree. Remove the extra step.
ek...@gmail.com <ek...@gmail.com> #14
A side effect of this extra step is that you can't access Google Now in a single swipe anymore.
On Kitkat, I used to have my phone unlocked (with a trusted device), and from the lock screen I was able to swipe up from the bottom to access Google Now directly. Now on Lollipop, that same swiping only unlocks the screen, and I have to swipe up again to get to Google Now.

The extra step to unlock is hugely annoying. Please let us have the PINpad when we push the power button!
Is this Google's way of making us use the phone less often?

jo...@gmail.com <jo...@gmail.com> #16
Completely ridiculous! I updated my 1st gen N7 and the first thing that happens when I turn it on is an extra thing I have to do to "turn it on"! I don't want notifications public to anyone turning my device on before I unlock it with my pattern. I will be leaving my other devices on KitKat until this is fixed.
no...@gmail.com <no...@gmail.com> #17
My preferred option would be to overlay the pattern ui in a slightly transparent mode. If I click, behave like now. If I start swiping, summer I want to unlock.
But at the very least it should be an option to use the old behavior.

+1, completely agree. I find the extra step to be very annoying, considering I don't want to have the notifications be shown.
br...@gmail.com <br...@gmail.com> #19
this extra step is ridiculous. If the average person unlocks their phone 80 times a day than that's a lot of useless extra swipes in the world! Whoever thought this was a great idea should get instant thumb RSI.
cl...@gmail.com <cl...@gmail.com> #20
I totally agree.
My workaround?
I just ordered some NFC tag to keep one in my pocket along with my phone and smart unlock.

jo...@gmail.com <jo...@gmail.com> #21
This was a terrible change. Like everyone else here, I now have to swipe twice just to unlock my phone. I don't want lock screen notifications (they're turned off by default anyway!), yet I still have to swipe twice. What an awful design decision.
Of course, Google never deigns to explain why they do anything, even when it adversely affects tons of people, so don't expect to get any answers from them. The best we can hope for is that they roll out an update that gives us an option to remove this terrible misfeature.

pr...@gmail.com <pr...@gmail.com> #24
This is way too stupid, I had disabled the notifications, so please I don't need that swipe screen, all I need is to be able to introduce my pin and be happy
jo...@gmail.com <jo...@gmail.com> #25
Need to be able to remove the phone and camera for left and right swipe. I keep opening my phone. Its not needed if you are like me and talk on thing maybe 2 minutes a day. Now I ened up swiping notifications(1) open phone by accident(2), and then up swipe to get where I want to be.
pr...@gmail.com <pr...@gmail.com> #26
Did you name it lollipop because it's so good at sucking really hard? Why do I even bother updating anymore. I don't even use the notifications. Before it was 2 steps and then I could start using my phone, now it's 4. WTF
pl...@gmail.com <pl...@gmail.com> #27
I have installed Lollipop and wish I could go back to Kitkat, this is more than the usual 'its different so its wrong' reaction you get with any new UI, it would appear that Google have favoured pretty over function in almost every area of the design.
But I digress, so back to the issue here....
Please allow the option to go direct to the unlock pattern when the power button is pressed. Unlocking my phone is one of the actions I do 10-100 times a day and the extra step required is an unnecessary extra complication. I have turned off the lock screen notifications.

ty...@tylerrick.com <ty...@tylerrick.com> #28
Very annoying. An unnecessary extra step - which I now have to do every time I use my phone. Did nobody at the android team realize this before they put this into Lollipop's lockscreen? Do they not lock their phones? Did everybody just stoically accept this? Strange...
hu...@gmail.com <hu...@gmail.com> #29
Terrible update - just more unnecessary swiping for people who already enter a pin code. I also don't want to see my phone screen when I get through my pin, let me see my home page.
I do like the camera access before the unlock - but agree that it is very easy to open the camera instead of swiping before entering a PIN!! Did anyone write any use cases while designing this GUI??!!
My thumbs are sore just thinking about all the extra swiping that'll be happening until google get's their act together and makes an update!

Agree with all of the above. Is this how Google will make us all buy Android Wear - make unlocking phone extra-laborious without it?
Also, I liked being able to turn on my phone and glance at top left of the screen to see if I had notifications. Now the notifications are in the middle - how can I get them back to the top left?
Seriously Google, did you actually watch normal people trying to use Android 5, or just decide that it looked pretty and that would be good enough?

And I do like that the camera is accessible from the lock screen, but 4.4.4 had that too. It's better now that it's more obvious, but otherwise, please let me have my lock screen back how it was.
cl...@gmail.com <cl...@gmail.com> #32
This is so annoying I want to downgrade this whole lollipop crap....
a....@gmail.com <a....@gmail.com> #33
I understand why it is there, for the new notifications on lock screen features, and I realize that with smart unlock, this is a step forward and makes things faster and simpler for many people.
However, for people that want/are-required-to-have more security on their device, this is definitely an unneeded step. We aren't going to use Smart Unlock and we aren't going to show notifications on the lock screen.
Before the Lollipop update:
See the notification blinking > Press power button > unlock device > swipe down to see notifications
After the update:
See the notification blinking > Press power button > swipe up for no reason > unlock device > swipe down to see notifications
Yes on one hand it is just a little swipe, what's the big deal? The reason it is so enraging is because it was working better before, and now there is no way to change it back. Unlocking the device happens dozens of times each day. So we are constantly reminded of this.
Please change this or make it optional. Lollipop is wonderful, but as silly as it may seem, this makes me consider downgrading to KitKat.

Very annoying to have to do the extra swipe now.
bo...@gmail.com <bo...@gmail.com> #35
agree, when lockscreen notificiation is turned off, the additional swipe should be removed
no...@gmail.com <no...@gmail.com> #36
If we could just remove that extra, unrequired swipe, I'd be all like "by Grabthar's Hammer, what a savings!"
ga...@gmail.com <ga...@gmail.com> #37
Use smartlock. Thats the only way to have security and skip a page from the start
jo...@gmail.com <jo...@gmail.com> #38
This is so annoying. And not having control to change the media that's playing when notifications are turned off is also driving me nuts. I just want the KitKat Lockscreen back.
do...@gmail.com <do...@gmail.com> #39
I agree with the others that if notifications are turned off, then there should be no reason to have to swipe to get to the unlock screen. It may sound trivial, but each time I do this I'm reminded of how annoying and pointless it is. Please remedy this in the next update.
en...@google.com <en...@google.com>
fl...@gmail.com <fl...@gmail.com> #40
Bring back old lock screen please!this new one doesn't help anywhere! One swipe more and terrible notifications on the screen exactly where I used to have a widget with the time, weather etc... back then I could see the weather and time and battery and whatever I wanted with just one press of the power button. Now I have to Swipe here and there just to unlock the phone!
da...@gmail.com <da...@gmail.com> #41
Lollipop is penalizing secure users. Insecure users can pick "Show all notification content" and have a wonderful lock screen. But secure users who pick either of the other two options will have a useless lock screen that slows down their access to the phone.
st...@gmail.com <st...@gmail.com> #42
2 swipes now to unlock my phone, very annoying and an idiotic update. Very poor Google, I'd expect this from ms
