I do support this request. Since upgrading to Android 5, my N5 suffered from terrible WiFi lags which seem to be related to problems in IPv6 stack.
Disabling IPv6 resolves the problems (temporary solution) but this is not possible without rooting the device at this point.

I don't think it's a good idea to provide this ability, because non networking-savvy users may have no idea that the problems are related to IPv6 and thus won't know to disable it. Instead it's better to focus on ensuring that Android does not provide a bad experience on these networks.

Dustin, have you diagnosed the problem since your post on bug 36949180 ?

I know this is an old (closed, and declined) thread, but I'd also like to put in my vote for this!

My ISP doesn't use IPv6, but my home network does, and it cannot be disabled on my home router. At the most, it can be reduced to local traffic only, which prevents any IPv6 traffic from leaving the local network. (Currently set this way, since my ISP doesn't support IPv6)

As a result, my phone tries to use IPv6 for internet traffic quite often, but some of the requesting apps (such as Netflix) get absolutely no internet access, unless I disable wifi on my phone, or switch to a wifi network that does not have IPv6 enabled in any way.

Being able to disable IPv6 without rooting the phone would be the easiest, and most efficient way to resolve such problems... or have the phone disable IPv6 automatically, if the network does not allow IPv6 traffic to the internet.

Having the same problem in my Galaxy S6 and my home router don't have a feature to disable IPv6

Please fix it!
