Everyone -- its a 1:50 chance google is going to implement this into the 6P.
This feature removal made me look for alternatives. I saw that flux now works with rooted phones.
Rooted my phone and installed flux. Now 100% satisfied. If you are able to root your phone, this is your best bet, don't waste any more time burning your eyes out at night.

rooting should not be necessary for this kind of feature. rooting is also increasingly breaking a number of apps (including android pay) which is not a viable alternative.
if google wants to try to force users into a pixel then that's fine, i can deal without night mode but google will not be my first choice for phones in the future.

Device model: Nexus 5 32GB
Manufacturer: LG
OS Version: 5.1
For me is easy to recreate the problem, simply start a game like Farm Heroes Saga, then close it by swiping away. For each time I do this the system memory increases 100mb or more until there is no more space and then cell phone stops responding. Additional I noticed than when I start Farm Heroes Saga for example the free memory on ‘Show Cache Processes’ is negative as can be seen on the print I took, and there is no free memory, this problem can be recreated even in the first minute after boot simply by starting the game.
Even if I don’t play any game the problem appears but not so soon and apps start to restart sooner or later.

Even just the old version of night mode that was in the 7.0 previews will be adequate, there is no reason to remove the feature when it seemingly worked. If you feel it is not stable enough for public release at least add it to developer options.

If you read well, the comment #20 above mentions "futurerelease" which is the stage of the topic.
Looking to Google you can find the following:
"Resolved Issues
This bucket contains bugs that have had action taken, and are now considered resolved.
Released: This bug has been fixed, and is included in a formal release. When this state is set, we try to also set a property indicating which release it was fixed in.
FutureRelease: This bug has been fixed (or feature implemented) in a source tree, but has not yet been included in a formal release."
So you can stop comment ont that it is not working or to ask to bring it back...
Thanks.
