qsb-mac - issue #1127

QSB causes Lion to write mem swap file until system disk full and system crashes

Posted on Jul 2, 2011 by Happy Kangaroo

What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Under Mac OS X Lion 10.7 Golden Master (11A511). 2. Press CTRL+SPACE to launch QSB 3. Enter an App name and try to launch the app. (For example, TRIM Support Enabler 1.2)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? QSB frozen. In less than 10 secs /private/var/vm are written with 2G mem swap file. If QSB is not killed, system disk will soon become full and OS X becomes extremely slow and not responding.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? QSB 2.0.0.3789 OS X Lion 10.7 Golden Master (11A511).

Please provide any additional information below. QSB is fine for apps with name shorter than 3 chars.

A typo:

"Step 2. Press CTRL+SPACE to launch QSB" Should be "Press shortcut key CTRL+SPACE to show QSB search box"

I have the same issue too, on my Apple 100GB SSD drive. It works pretty well on my 500GB WD Scorpio Blue.

Same problem here: late 2010 MBP, 500GB drive, 8GB RAM. QSB becomes unresponsive and has to be killed or system crashes.

OS X 10.7 Lion Golden Master (11A511) is confirmed to be the version released on 20 July 2011. That implies, QSB is currently not compatible with OS X 10.7 Lion.

However guys, you could use Alfred as an substitute until google updates QSB. It lacks some feature but it still do more or less the same job. Anyways, a big thank to google team to put up this awesome app!

I believe QSB project is set to maintenance mode by google, so an official fix isn't going to come fast. I hope someone with a sufficient development expertise can figure it out.

The issue seems related to spotlight integration which is apparently upgraded in Lion. Try to deselect spotlight results and disable spotlight plugin in QSB preference to work around it.

Works for my QSB 2.0.0.3789, and freezes no more.

Yes, bug observed on new Lion install

And, yes, this is "quick fix": Deselect spotlight results and disable spotlight plugin in QSB preference.
