mtg-familiar - issue #72

Life Counter +/- buttons are on top of each other in portrait view and odd sizes in landscape view

Posted on Mar 8, 2012 by Happy Kangaroo

*What steps will reproduce the problem? 1.Start MTG Familiar 2.Open the Life Counter

*What is the expected output? What do you see instead? What I see.. a) In portrait view: For each player the +/- buttons are stacked on top of each other in portrait view, with the +1 & +5 buttons on the top and the others hidden underneath those. See "Portrait - Error.jpg" attached.

b) In landscape view: For each player the -5 & -1 buttons are smaller then the +1 & +5 buttons. See "Landscape - Error.jpg" attached.

What I expected to see.. a) In portrait view: The buttons arranged as per the current picture on the app market (Google play), or similar e.g. all button faces are visible, per player, in a neat 2v2 array.

b) In landscape view: The buttons should be even sizes.

*What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? MTG Familiar version 1.4 Android version 2.2.1 on HTC Wildfire

*Please provide any additional information below. Fantastic app, keep up the good work :)

What worries me more than the strangely sized buttons are the incorrectly rotated buttons. The poison dagger is supposed to preserve orientation. I don't know why the layout is being botched so badly, but I am fairly certain that it is a phone-specific issue.

I don't have a Wildfire, but I can create an emulator with 2.2.1 and a 320x240 screen. If I can't replicate it there, there's not much I can do without a Wildfire in hand.

Ahh, the pics I included are just hashed together from the market screen shots, so don't worry how the poison, life, dice, mana and reset icons look in my pictures...

Sorry for the confusion caused, I just wanted to show what was happening to the +/- buttons. Anything you can try for sorting those out, would be great.

Ok, I see the layout issue in portrait layout. It's definitely because I never did any testing with a screen smaller than 480x320. In fact, I didn't even know Android phones with 320x240 screens existed before this. I can add a fix for it in the next release.

I don't see the issue in landscape mode though. Everything looks fine in the emulator, no stretched buttons like you mocked up.
