Hello, I would like to add a profile whereupon a compressed file can be quickly extracted to a folder on the desktop.
However, I am unable to "save" the profile (the profile menu is greyed out). Is this something that is not yet supported?
I would love to write this software up in my blog www.freewaregenius.com at some point.

Posted on Apr 20, 2011 by Quick OxExtraction profiles aren't supported, but a fairly sufficient workaround is available.
You only need to enter the desired paths once, as combo-box histories are now saved between sessions. Use their drop-down lists to choose previously-used paths.
You are most welcome to write about J7Z in your blog. Send me an email once you've done so and I'll post a link to the article on this website.

Posted on Apr 21, 2011 by Happy BearXavio, Thanks for the prompt response. Question for you though: is it not possible to add extraction profiles in an upcoming version? The reason I am going on about this is that extraction profiles would make it easier for me to recommend this software on my site, as I believe more people might need or relate to those than users who seek compression profiles.
Thanks, Samer www.freewaregenius.com

Posted on Apr 24, 2011 by Quick OxIt's not that extraction profiles are impossible, but more that I didn't think they'd be very popular and I wanted to avoid confusing the users by doubling-up.
However, I don't want to be stubborn about it. If you can give me specific cases where users would find extraction profiles to be helpful, I'll reconsider my stance.

Posted on Apr 24, 2011 by Happy BearXavio, Here's my situation.
I download a lot of software to test for my site into a folder structure on D:\download (e.g. D:\Download\Audio, D:\Download\Graphics.
But when I am ready to test, I usually copy/paste the archive into the desktop then extract, delete the archive (while keeping the original downloaded copy in D:\download) and install, etc. I would love to be able to simply right click on an archive wherever it is located and extract it on the desktop (as an extraction profile)
Another case: I download torrent archives in a central location (d:\download\torrents, then extract onto drive F:, which is my media drive, and looks like this: F:\Film, F:\documentary, F:\animation. etc..
I would love to be able to have these saved as extraction profiles, to be used on demand quickly and easily.
Thanks!
Samer

Posted on Apr 24, 2011 by Quick OxAs I suspected, it's more about your needs than your users' :-). In the several years since I released the first version of this application, nobody else has requested extraction profiles!
Despite having both of these factors working against you, I probably should implement this feature for the sake of completeness. However, there's one potential issue to consider beforehand.
Regarding the J7Z entry in Windows Explorer's context menu, I'm not willing to add user-specific items like 'Film' and 'Animation'. I'd want the standard extraction profile names to be more generic.
These might mirror the names of the standard creation profiles, such as 'Flash' and 'Remote'. You could either customise these profiles to suit your needs or save your own and modify said context menu entry.

Posted on May 15, 2012 by Quick OxThis feature has now been implemented. It exists in the recently released J7Z v1.2.0. I'm sorry it took so long to action your request. Several things got in the way, one of them being pure laziness.
