Download files aren't openable with the default tools of any major platform

Posted on Nov 27, 2009 by Quick Bird

Currently, I see two download formats - 7z and rar. Neither of these can be opened with the default tools of Windows, OS X, or most Linux distributions, requiring 7-Zip or WinRAR, respectively. Why not also put up a zip download? While marginally larger, the added ease of installation should make it worth it - and those who can unzip 7z or rar files can just get those.

Hi man, Thanks for the comment. I put this formats becouse i think they works fine. Do you think zip is more common than rar? i have to evaluate this ,then. there is no reason to put rar except, Rar format is very common here in Spain. but i am going to ask on the forums too. so thanks for the advice.

finally i am going to use the .zip extension wich is more flexible and useful for both systems , win and linux. i will use 7Zip to compress files.
