Attempting to load the included intel driver in Hardy will cause Ubuntu to use fallback video settings (VESA driver), at which point, details of the failure are in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old.

The intel driver is successfully found and loaded, but then immediately unloaded, with the error:

(EE) module ABI major version (1) doesn't match the server's version (2) (EE) Failed to load module "intel" (module requirement mismatch, 0)

Finally, the attempt to start X11 fails with:

(EE) No drivers available. Fatal server error: no screens found

I have the same problem on my ubuntu 8.04 Have someone an idea, how to fix it?

Same Problem here on Mint 5. I gave up and went back to eeexbuntu
