WiiMote: Nyko Wand drops connection

Posted on Jan 18, 2010 by Swift Horse

What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Connecting Nyko Wand to iPhone via btstack 2. 3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? It's expected that the device stays connected throughout use.

It connects, and using wiimote opengles demo, I can see the iPod Touch is in fact receiving input from the controller, but it only lasts for 3 seconds, and then the Bluetooth connection is dropped. It would be really nice if you guys could fix this problem, as I can't afford to spend another 50$.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

please upload /tmp/hci_dump.pklg after it disconnects for a quick check. and please provide a link to this Nyko Wand, preferable with technical specifications.

Here's the information for the Wand: http://www.nyko.com/products/product-detail/?name=Wand

as for the dump, that will have to wait until I have access to my mac tomorrow.

Thanks so much for looking into this issue!

Do you have any idea what may be causing the connection to drop?

hi mitchel026

the web site says it is compatible to the WiiMote. The log file looks fine, btw. What is the problem with the WiMote demo and yout Wand? Please note that the demo only recognizes rolling around the long axis of the device (as in the video part II)

They are correct, and the wand is compatible with the Wii 100%.

I know that the demo only rolls on one axis, and that works fine for about 4 seconds. After the 4 seconds, the Nyko wand powers itself off, however it doesn't do this when its connected to my mac or my friend's Wii.

interesting. I might have a similar problem with a keyboard type.

can you attach a log from the mac here (no need for ad-powered upload sites)? you can create a log using PacketLogger from Application/UtilitiesBluetooth on the Mac.

in regards to this issue, i have the same problem with the nyko wiimote. i currently have 0.1-585 update and when the wimote demo connects to the wiimote, the connection is established for a few seconds and is shortly operational, then the wiimote shuts off. if you need any diagnostic info, let me know and i will try my best in helping resolving this issue.

I have the same problem. Nyko wand drops after 3 seconds. It also is not working with the snes emulator, so it makes me think there might be some issue with the driver and the wand.

Same problem here. Works fine for about 3 seconds, then the Nyko wiimote turns off (it seems).

I'm guessing it's an issue with the remote itself, not the drivers. Could be wrong, though.

as I said, the connection stays alive, but the Nyko Wand does not send more data. It could be that we have to send some command periodically, but the original WiiMote does not need that. I also didn't try to simulate a WiiMote to see what the Wii is sending so far.A WiiMote emulation app might be nice too, (without the IR detector of course).

I too have a Nyko wand that doesn't sync. It works with psx4all, for me, no problems. Would really like for it to work with my other emulators. (iPhone 4, 4.2.1)

My Nyko wand also stays connected with psx4all on my iPhone (though not all of the time), but none of the other emulators. What is different about psx4all? And why does it not work every time I try to connect with psx4all? It sometimes responds just like the other emulators.

does your Nyko work with psx4all but not my original WiiMoteOpenGLESDemo from Cydia?

I've done more messing around, and it seems my Nyko only APPEARS to be staying connected with psx4all. The 1st player light will continue to light up, but I'm not getting any response from the wand during gameplay. And to answer your question, I sometimes have connection for a few seconds with your app, other times, nothing at all. The wand is found during the search, and is recognized, but if signals are received from the wand, it is only for a few seconds. Thanks.

thanks for testing. if it would have worked with psx4all, I would have tried to contact its author and ask for details. :)

I'm having a similar problem with the nyko wand- when using any of the popular wiimote-compatible snes emulators on ipad, the wiimote shows up in the list, but doesn't connect at all. the wiimote will stop flashing, and the "player 1" light never glows. the flashing of all 4 player slots continues for about 2 secs then just turns off. it's almost as if it's getting a kill signal from the ipad, prematurely or something.
