What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Once I start the program 2. 3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expected to be able to select what I want from the menu and anytime I roll over the menu to have the mouse pointer back to choose another option
Instead, the minute the program starts I immediately have a pen already chosen and it draws on the desktop but I can't choose anything on the menu when I roll over the menu. I am also unable to quit the program and have had to log out instead using the keyboard ctl+alt+del
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Ubuntu 12.04 - Precise Pangolin ardesia_1.1-1_i386.deb

Posted on Jan 14, 2013 by Happy HorseAre you talking about the Ardesia menu or the desktop environment menu alias panel. If you are talking about the panel it is normal; in order to access to the desktop with mouse you must press the mouse tool on the Ardesia toolbar.

Posted on Jan 18, 2013 by Swift PandaI have the same problem. Even when I managed to use Alt+Tab to return focus to another application and was able to access the Ardesia Info popup from the menu, I could not close that. I had to force shutdown of my computer and restart it.
Removal seems to be the only option. (Linux Mint 14 with Mate)

Posted on Feb 1, 2013 by Grumpy CatI have the same problem on the same dist Ubuntu 12.04. It unfortunately did never worked as expected. On image attached you can see that the drawing tool is selected always and I am not able to click on any icon of ardesia righ toolbar. If I press alt I am able to hover over icon and see its change in focus but the icons does not work, when I click it simply starts drawing.
I found a way to stop ardesia when I start it from console window I can get focus back to terminal and by pressing crtl+c I force to stop it.
The reason for the troubles might be the unity or unity-2d I am using but I have to switch to confirm that.
I really want to have it working. I loved the screen cast with shape detection.
Please help us.

Posted on Feb 3, 2013 by Grumpy CatI have made another check and it worked on Ubuntu 12.04, I tried xfce as WM but it lack support for "composite" then I switched back to Unity (3D) and it suddenly started to work.
I just have to dig more into what actually might be the problem. And retest it on the other installation of Ubuntu 12.04.

Posted on Feb 3, 2013 by Quick Monkey@rpichie Could be that exists a bug that restack the windows badly when is done the ALT TAB shortcut. Anyway Ardesia is done to stay above all windows, if you want change the focus you might press the mouse Ardesia tool and select the desired application.

Posted on Feb 3, 2013 by Quick Monkey@petr1moravek The xfce WM does not lack the composite manager functions. In order to use Ardesia with xfce you must enable the Xfwm Compositor.

Posted on Feb 20, 2013 by Happy PandaUbuntu 12.10. Unity.
Just upgraded from Ardesia 1.0 (ubuntu package) to Ardesia 1.1 downloaded from ardesia website (64 bit, deb package).
It worked for a few minutes. Then, I clicked in something (don't remember exactly what) and now I cannot click in Ardesia taskbar again. Not even killing the program and restarting it. I mean: when Ardesia is started I can click the taskbar. Once I begin drawing with any tool, I cannot click Ardesia taskbar again. Have to kill the program from Unity task bar.
Please fix this bug, Ardesia is so cool.
Otherwise I'll revert to version 1.0 distributed with Ubuntu.

Posted on May 30, 2013 by Swift MonkeyOK, I found the issue. It works until I go over half the toolbar width, at which point it tries to extend the toolbar, which freezes it completely. My only option is then to kill it (I'm lucky ctrl-q works) and relaunch it. Also, are there any keyboard shortcuts, as I'd like to toggle between mouse mode and pen mode quickly live. Thanks!

Had the same problem discussed above. But discovered the solution, at least for now for me. I set the unity launcher to auto hide, which now allows me to click to different colors, for instance -- but not the dot for line thickness. Here, would need to set 1st if not desire the default setting.

Posted on May 5, 2015 by Massive OxIn Ubuntu 14.04 this is a issue as stated above. Seems like the drawing layer lies on top of the menu. The only thing that is above the layer is the Unity menu on the left. I also noticed that if you right click on the Ardesia icon on the Unity menu and click on 'ardesia', then the Ardesia menu will go on top of the layer and you can click on the drawing menu.
This is a problem that should be fixed. The drawing menu should always be available.

Posted on May 15, 2015 by Swift PandaThe "transparent" window/canvas places over the toolbar. It is possible to drag it by presing "ALT", as when moving other windows. If dragged to the left, the toolbar can be clicked again.

Posted on Aug 21, 2015 by Happy BearThanks, Marco. That worked for me. If the developers can modify the application to install the modified configuration file by default, that would fix the bug.
