Abstract
The goal of the project is the incorporation of a game/activity for the practice of factors and fractions is proposed as a possible contribution. The idea is concordant with the necessity of extending the functions of the project and therefore I have decided to contribute to TuxMath in this particular aspect.
The proposal of the project have the next specific goals:
1.Create two activities that are accessible from the main menu/activities.
2.The first activity will be useful in discovering the factors of a given number. A big comet/ big rock will fall containing a product. The student should find the factors of the product until he finally separates it into its simplest components. Example: 60: to separate it, the student should introduce 2, 2, 3 and 5. Upon finding each factor, the size of the rock will gradually reduce.
3.The second activity will be useful to practice simplification of fractions. The student should find a possible simplification which will turn into smaller rocks which can destroy each other if the missing simplifications are found. For example: If a comet/rock with the fraction 36/12 appears on the screen, the student can introduce a divisor such as 2, which will generate smaller comets/rocks. These rocks will destroy each other when the student finds other possible simplifications such as 4, 6, 12…
4.My idea is to include a model of a new game which will permit the introduction of a certain variety to the game; a horizontal scroll in the background in three layers: the lower layer with an image of space or others (making the scroll slower), the middle layer with other images and the upper layer with asteroids and the tux mobile unit. The design would be appropriate for children and avoid violence.
5.All the mentioned aspects should be discussed in order to reach an agreement.
