MathTran is a service similar to the Google Chart API, it returns a PNG-format image in response to a URL. Unlike Google Chart, MathTran provides translation of TeX encoded mathematics to images.

As a frequent TeX user I have come to appreciate the high quality of the resulting typography of mathematical content - something most browsers still cannot do without having additional MathML plugins and/or fonts installed.

As a GSoC project for the TeX Users Group I propose an online TeX editor with live preview, error reporting and analyzation, as well as a clickable interface to common used TeX commands. This editor will make it easier to integrate mathematics into other webpages as it will also show the URL of the generated image which then can be copied and pasted into any image source attribute.

This application will make it easier for experienced as well as novice TeX users to take advantage of MathTran as a web service.
