PostgreSQL project Preferred license: New BSD license
PostgreSQL is the most advanced open source database management system, with a set of features extending far beyond SQL and ACID transactions to pluggable procedural languages, XML, custom aggregates and more. PostgreSQL scales to thousands of users and terabytes of data. It is written entirely in well-documented C, with some optional components in other languages.
PostgreSQL is also unincorporated global development community which works on the PostgreSQL object-relational database and tools related to it. We are community-owned and not the product of any one company. Our developers and mentors consist mostly of hardcore database hackers, including corporate programmers, academics and independent database enthusiasts. All development of PostgreSQL is done online on public mailing lists and public CVS.
