This project entails the creation of a browser-based Jigdo client using JavaScript. Local file writing will be done using XPCOM for Mozilla based browsers and ActiveX for IE. The server and client both benefit from a browser based Jigdo solution. Servers will require less storage and bandwidth for transferring the underlying data, as well as clients receiving the benefits of the Jigdo system without needing to install an executable on the client system. This project can be applied to data outside of the Debian project, but will immediately be useful to Debian mirrors. The cost of mirroring Debian software will be reduced by introducing a widely supported browser-based client.
A revised version of the application can be found here: http://bluehelm.net/gsoc/ It is more thorough and includes more up to date information regarding file write performance. |
