I would implement some high-level classes in the System.Windows.Controls namespace using lower-level classes (no native calls). Button, Label, CheckBox etc. look simple enough, and, depending on the time remaining, I would start work on more complex ones, like ListView.
Deliverables: samples in the Windows SDK for the implemented controls/classes should have the same behavior and their visual appearance should be similar.
