  1. What is a Google Qualified Developer?

Developer Qualification is a recognition of professional expertise pertaining to Google and Open Source APIs, and issues specific to them. In order to achieve this level of recognition, Qualified developers within the program have passed the Qualification exam as well as having met other requirements.

By attaining qualification, the developer receives:

    • Google's recognition as a tested and Qualified Developer.
    • The official Google Qualified Developer logo specific to the API for which qualification was obtained, and which can be displayed on a website to showcase the developer's skills and help attract clients.
    • Listing in the Developer Directory, which validates the Google Qualified Developer credentials.
    • A warm, fuzzy feeling for this grand accomplishment.
  2. How do I become qualified?

To obtain qualification in the Google Qualified Developer program, you'll need to accomplish the following:

    1. Sign up for the program successfully and be in good standing. This means that you've accepted the Terms and Conditions and aren't in violation of them.
    2. Decide which developer area you wish to pursue.
    3. Achieve and maintain a passing qualification score based on your references, active development examples, community participation and grades on the qualification exams.

Please note that you must continuously maintain all requirements to retain your Google Qualified Developer status. This means that you may need to re-take the qualification exams if they expire. Current exams will expire whenever they are replaced by an exam update. Updates will be created whenever there is a significant change to the relevant developer product. You will be notified when the exam is updated, and will be given 60 days to take the updated exam. In some cases a delta exam containing only updated content may be available.

  3. Is there any training provided by Google?

No. The content areas in the exam are detailed, but developers are responsible for learning the materials themselves. More information on qualification requirements is available in the Study Guide, and there are useful references and tutorials on codesite.

  4. But what will I have to actually DO once I'm accepted into the program?

The Google Qualified Developer program requires that you demonstrate your eligibility in several different qualification areas. In addition to passing the qualification exam, you must provide examples of development work, evidence of community participation, and references from clients with whom you have worked.

You will be given a score in each area. In order to become a Google Qualified Developer, you will be required to achieve and maintain at least 3000 out of a possible 5000 points on your Google Qualified Developer score.

Your score will be based on:

    • Application Development

Your work is what counts here. Show us what you've got, and you'll earn up to 1000 points towards your Google Qualified Developer score.

    • Community Participation

Google Qualified Developers are expected to act as technical leaders within the developer community. Show us how you've participated in developer communities, and we'll reward you with up to 1000 points towards your Google Qualified Developer score.

    • References

The esteem of your clients is your best measure of success. Earn up to 1000 points towards your Google Qualified Developer score by providing personal references for your work.

    • Qualification Exam

The Qualification Exam covers general knowledge about the API and issues specific to creating applications with it (check the Study Guide for detailed information on specific exams). The exam consists of 50 questions for a total possible score of 2000 points towards your Google Qualified Developer score.

  5. What is the Developer Directory?

The Developer Directory provides a reference listing of developers whose solutions integrate and extend Google's communication, collaboration, search and enterprise products. Developers who have received Google qualification are identified by a badge in their listing and their qualifications noted.

  6. What is the Learning Center?

The Learning Center is an external website from which we administer the qualification exams and track other qualification requirements. Upon being accepted to the program, the developer will be given access to the Learning Center with instructions on how to access it.

The Google Qualified Developer program is an evaluation model only. The candidate developers are fully responsible for preparing themselves to meet qualification requirements. More information on qualification requirements is available in the Study Guide.
