Some users will object to a limit of 64 snapshots.
For instance, at least one LVM user expected 200
snapshots to work.

Dan P. says that it might not be too hard to switch
from absolute snapshot numbers to incremental
ones, such that the absolute snapshot number is
reconstructed as we scan for the appropriate
exception record.  This would remove the current arbitrary
limit.
