Introduction to running znc on Windows
Featured, Phase-Deploy
Updated Mar 30, 2011 by ingmar.runge

System Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 with IE6 or newer (XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, 7)
  • IPv6 support in ZNC is not available before Windows XP SP1!
  • Starting with version 0.098: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (32 Bit / 64 Bit)
  • Earlier versions: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (32 Bit / 64 Bit)
  • Windows 2000 also needs KB835732
  • Network connection

First Start

Open a new cmd.exe instance, navigate to the folder where znc.exe resides, type znc --makeconf, then follow the instructions. When you're done, simply enter znc and hit return to start the program.

Notes

  • Details about using modules, webadmin and so on can be found on the official ZNC website.
  • You currently have to keep the console window open. Closing it will shut down ZNC. A proper GUI to send ZNC to the system tray is in the works.
  • To run ZNC as a service, read ServiceSetup or use SrvAny.
