Need to rename this issue to help people find it. I'd like at least put some 
hooks in
for 1.3 so you can do this in a custom javascript file, but I'm not certain yet

As of r769 on 1.4-dev branch, you can customize the location editor by adding a 
file called location-editor.js to the geo-mashup-custom folder. I'll attach an 
example I developed for a client that adds a button to save the current view in 
a cookie, and to load neighboring posts.
