Internet connection brakes when using local resources #270

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Downloading files from my local area, using DC++ for example.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
In WL500W-1.9.2.7-d-r2624 it was ok. And now until I finish downloading files 
via DC++, Internet wouldn't work - so browser will not open any html page, even 
the page of router (sometimes it open, but very very slowly).

What version of the product are you using?
WL500W-1.9.2.7-rtn-r3497

Please provide any additional information below.
Using L2TP connection. Internet Provider - Beeline.

I also experience a similar problem. When a bandwidth-hungry(dc++, torrent) 
application is running, no other internet connections are working. I can't even 
open the router's web-ui. It looks like ther router uses all its resources to 
serve the "hungry" app, because once I shutdown the app, all other connection 
are restored.

I have not seen this problem in the 2.4 branch.

But I simply get the version with stable core from ftp://core.dumped.ru/

Having this issue as well.

On the latest firmware.

it's a critical issue actually.

OK, I think I've found workaround for this.

You need to use SLAB allocator in the kernel instead of SLUB + remove TCP 
Congestion.

I've tried rtn firmware and found out that the speed, when you are downloading 
files has increased at minimum 1 MB/sec, unlike the old firmware. The hardware 
of wl-500w can be too weak, can't it? As far as I know - rt-n16 model has no 
such problem.

Could you give some explanations? You mean to rebuild firmware?

Yes, you need to rebuild firmware with custom kernel configuration.

No, it's not related to hardware - it works just fine on 2.4.20 kernel.

RT-N16 is based on 2.6 kernel originally.

WL500gpv2-1.9.2.7-rtn-r4051 same problem when using torrent. In 
WL500gpv2-1.9.2.7-d-r2624 has no problems.

The connection is broken, but the web interface, it remains connected until I

DC++ couldn't connect to local hubs now. It wrote that couldn't recognize me 
(ip address I think). :( Internet is ok, but I couldn't test the issue with 
speed because of DC trouble.

your local ip might have changed

check ifconfig vlan1 for local ip address and paste it into your DC client.

A web interface maybe a little bit slower under load but it's normal I think.

if you don't have a linux by hand, I suggest installing VirtualBox 
(http://virtualbox.org) and Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 or Debian 6 Squeeze into 
Virtual Machine.

Did you check if router was restarted?

You can check via issuing 'uptime' command without ' in the console.

it could be Beeline fucking around or dropping connection or it happens exactly 
if you're using uTorrent ?

did you snatch from local peers or from internet?

needs more testing

My firmware build has been stable for 12 days, no reboots, the only thing I 
noticed there is a bug with SLAB which I see in dmesg. (attached file with log)

But at least it's not rebooting itself without a reason.

Well, basically you need to test everything out and if it happens again you 
might consider trying latest firmware there were few fixes in L2TP.
