Here are the answers to common questions

Details

  • Q: Game xxx doesn't work
  • A: Not all games work, in addition try using the game fix options to see if that resolves your issue. The fix options can get some games, which don't normally work, to play. Conversely if you don't need the fix, don't use it - you can stop games from working.
  • Q: The loader exited during startup
  • A: Because of the buffering mechanism used the loader may exit it one of the images is "bad" or has an unexpected size. Check all your images against the expected sizes (Cover 160x224, Disk 160x160, 3D Cover 512x340) if one of these is not the correct size or cannot be viewed in a graphics application it may crash the loader.

Coverfloader 1.0 can't start Ice Age 3 Pal on my Pal Wii. When i click on the cover the wii resets. All other Games are working normaly.

Comment by jarodtu...@gmail.com, Jul 9, 2009

In the v1.0 release, what is the diferrence between the 2 wads that were packaged in the archive (besides their file size)?

"CoverFloader1?.0.wad"

"CoverFloader1?.0-Forwarder.wad"

Comment by crash.te...@gmail.com, Jul 9, 2009

CoverFloader1?.0.wad installs Cover Floader 1.0 onto you Wii so that it runs from the Wii instead of the SD card. CoverFloader1?.0-Forwarder.wad installs a channel on the Wii much like CoverFloader1?.0.wad except CoverFloader1?.0-Forwarder.wad does not contain CoverFloader?. CoverFloader1?.0-Forwarder.wad executes sd:/apps/coverfloader/boot.dol thus, when you upgrade sd:/apps/coverfloader/boot.dol you CoverFloader? runs the new version. But if you use CoverFloader1?.0.wad, when it is time to upgrade to 1.0.1 you will have to delete the CoverFloader? channel and then install CoverFloader1?.0.1.wad. Since most people have to take the SD card out and put it in the PC to upgrade, CoverFloader1?.0-Forwarder.wad requires fewer steps to upgrade (you just replace the contents of sd:/apps/coverfloader with the new version and you are done. But with CoverFloader1?.0.wad you have to delete the channel, then put the new wad on you SD card, then you have to load HBC, then you have to load a WAD tool, then you have to install the new WAD. So, essentially, CoverFloader1?.0.wad requires all of the steps to upgrade that CoverFloader1?.0-Forwarder.wad requires but then CoverFloader1?.0.wad has 4 additional steps.) So forwarders save you time when upgrading the program they forward to unless you need to upgrade the forwarder itself for some reason.

Where's the Documentation page on the Wiki tab? And when you find it, will you give me permission to write it?

Comment by crash.te...@gmail.com, Jul 9, 2009

I promise I'll do a better job than my comment a couple comments ago.

Comment by jarodtu...@gmail.com, Jul 10, 2009

Crash, Thank you for the great explaination. I assume then that if you use CoverFloader1?.0.wad that app and game setting are still kept somewhere on the SD card. I am unable to imagine a benefit to not using the forwarder instead. In your opinion is there any such reason?

Comment by crash.te...@gmail.com, Jul 10, 2009

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the Cover Floader Channel will still use the SD card for data (images, titles, etc) and settings, its easy enough to check: install CoverFloader1??.0.wad, remove the card, launch Cover Floader Channel, see what happens. If CoverFloader? is very polished (at this point there's no need for it to be) it will prompt you to insert the SD, but more than likely it will crash, I haven't tried that yet and probably won't. Theoretically it could run without an SD card but it probably never will store data and settings on the Wii since Wii memory is scarce, the file I/O in cover floader would have to be completely rewritten to use Wii memory, you can't fit Wii backups on it so you have to use a hard drive anyways, so eventually CoverFloader? will support using hard drives with two or more partitions launching CoverFloader? from and storing data on the FAT32 partition (or eventually maybe even NTFS or EXT3 formatted partitions) and then you'd be able to launch and use the cover floader channel without an SD card. Now it appears that if you have multiple partitions, it will find and use the WBFS partition for reading and writing backups, but it won't let you use the USB hard drive for anything else (yet).

Comment by crash.te...@gmail.com, Jul 10, 2009

Oh, and your question, I use the forwarder, I see no reason to use the pure channel.

Comment by motosp...@gmail.com, Jul 28, 2009

Hello, when i try exiting to the wii menu from the home button, the application crashes. Only the HB loader button works as it exits me to the homebrew channel.

Comment by kekoa1...@gmail.com, Aug 2, 2009

Is it just me, or does version 1.1 still have the 1.0 forwarder? It looks like the other 2 are updated, just not the forwarder.

Comment by oliverin...@gmail.com, Aug 3, 2009

Yes, me too. Date of the forwarder-file 7.7.09 date of the other files 24.7.09

Question of me: I have a problem with my hdd. It always works fine, when i power on the hdd after Cover Flow runs and say "there were no hdd found". Then i turn on the power. and search again. That´s the only way it works. Can you fix it ?! Or do you know this problem ?

Is there a manner in which I can enter my own cheats in? I would love to be able to get unlimited health in Resident evil archives! Any clues?

Comment by mwatson....@gmail.com, Aug 13, 2009

Comment by sterling...@gmail.com, Aug 13, 2009

I have the same problem as mwatson.one. I have tried to download covers but nothing happens. I also manually added some to the covers and 3dcovers folder but it still says "no cover"

Comment by dcaga...@gmail.com, Aug 16, 2009

Comment by peterpan...@gmail.com, Aug 16, 2009

Comment by kane.d.e...@gmail.com, Aug 16, 2009

I have checked my disks folder for coverfloader and have discovered that most games have two disc images for example RBKP and RBKP69, they are the same image, just wondering which version should i keep for Coverfloader to see it, the 6 digit or the 4 digit one

Comment by project member F1SHE4RS@gmail.com, Aug 20, 2009

As of version 1.1 we use the 6 digit code for all images. You can safely delete any 4 digit images.

Nearly every time I start the forwarder it gives me that DSI exception error and I have to click reset to go back to system menu. Why does this happen and how can I fix it as I have to use the homebrew channel to get to coverfloader.

Please help. Thanks (sorry if it says this somewhere else)

Comment by St0y...@gmail.com, Dec 11, 2009

Yeah why isn't this on WiiBrew?????:S

Comment by St0y...@gmail.com, Dec 11, 2009

And will gamecube games work??? Or Will They Ever???

Comment by mounhim....@gmail.com, Dec 24, 2009

In the downloads section you can also find the files that start with CF (e.g. CF_r1036.rar). What are those files. The boot.dol for a new version of CoverFloader??

Comment by mounhim....@gmail.com, Dec 24, 2009

Yep, it is. Just downloaded it and put it in the Coverfloader folder (in Apps) and is working (not immediately though). But if the latest build is wanted, look voor the CF...rar file under Downloads.

Comment by saberkat...@yahoo.com, Jan 22, 2010

Ok. I am having an issue with cheats. I have a few questions. I am currently using the Coverfloader channel. My first question is where does CF store the cheat files? My next issue is, I was playing one of my games earlier and saw that there were a decent number of cheats for it that I could activate. Since then, I have gotten other games and clicked the "download cheats" button in the menu, then went back to the game I was playing and all the cheats are gone. How do I get them back?

Comment by project member F1SHE4RS@gmail.com, Jan 24, 2010

By default, the txt files for cheats (available cheats) are stored in sd:/usb-loader/txtcodes/ and the gct files (active cheats) are stored in sd:/codes/ - you can check these locations by clicking the "i" button (top right on main CF screen) and going to page 2. Some forwarders make CF think it was launched from USB and therefore all directories will be created on your USB drive. The latest forwarders have fixed this issue.

My friend does not have is Wii hooked up to internet and Coverfloader fails each time he tries to backup a game. It tries to get the covers, fails at that point and does not allow him to backup the game. Is there any way to disable the automatic covers search feature in coverfloader?
