If search results appear (as in the screen shot above) you may click on these to confirm whether it is the same as an individual which already exists in the database. Clicking on a search result brings up the following screen:

Although the system could be fully automatic I've allowed the user to have the final say on whether a search result is a correct match, since I only had a few images of the same individual available for testing. To confirm a match just click on 'this is the same individual' and the name and serial number will be filled in on the 'new sighting' screen as appropriate.
