WGAL stands for Windows Game Abstraction Layer. It may sound like something huge, but it is rather a simple project.

What it simply does is wrapping up other basic libraries and their initialization routine. Current goal is to support basic 2D graphics and audio features. Basically designed for educational purposes, it is limited in its functionality and therefore may not be suitable for developing advanced games. If you want to write such games then you'll find XNA as a better solution.

July 21, 2008

2D graphics APIs are now complete. Official downloads will be provided upon completion of audio APIs. Anyway, you can still access the entire source code freely.

The project is licensed under BSD license. For further information, read this.

Please note that this project has absolutely no relations with WGAL of NBC television.
