How to install iSMS helper manually
Please leave this page as soon as possible if you're
- Still using 1.1.1 or lower FW iPhone.
- Using 1.1.2+ iPhone but not brave enough.
- Totally noob on iPhone and SSH/Shell operation
Welcome, brave people!
Since iSMS rc2 build 04/17, iSMS help can work with all FW, but because I have no 1.1.2+ iphone to test with, so the feature is disabled by default. (I do NOT want to bother my only 1.0.2 phone by reinstall FW back and forth, and you can help me to get a test phone by donating :)
Well, enough, enough let's start now!
- First you need have SSH installed on your iPhone, and you can log into your iPhone with any term tool(such as Putty or SecureTTY)
- Use any tool to copy out the file /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist on your iPhone for backup - (optional)
- SSH into your iPhone as root, and type in the following commands
#cd /Applications/iSMS.app #./iSMS -install
#/bin/launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist #/bin/launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist
What's next ?
- Now you have iSMS helper installed and you can enable it in iSMS preference view. But if you met problem or want to remove this helper, follow the following command.
#cd /Applications/iSMS.app #./iSMS -uninstall
then reboot.
- If you accidentally turned off your SSH server, and could not see the springboard, don't be panic, just use some tool such as iBricker and put the backed up launch file com.apple.SpringBoard.plist back to the folder /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ and restart your phone, then everything will back.
Finally
Thank you brave people, for helping test this application. if you have any problems or found any bugs, please report it in the issue system.

I have got soft 1.1.3 and when i try unload springboard that return me error : no such file or directory. I have checked and this file is in this directory. Any idea wow to fix it?
I've use this way to Enable SB Helper. This work, iSMS was a Default SMS App. But something happen, if i received a message, the springboad like freeze and hang. Please fix this issue, i love iSMS.
Ive entered the commands above in putty, but nothing seems to work, have nothing happen on the phone, and sbhelper still isnt working in isms Any ideas why? on 1.1.4
I've installed iSMS through installer, it didn't work, when i clicked it, i saw only my background picture, and then it exits after 10seconds, ive tried this way, now i get a white background, and it exits also after sometime without displaying anything. Can you please help , i really luv iSMS, i use 1.1.3
Hi all, I got 1.1.4 an try this tip, after install the app via installer, all work good, I perform the step listed up and finally I got my iSMS working as the default sms app, but some bug after I receive the second message hang the application and left me in my wallpaper, I have to press the home button around ten seconds to get my iphone alive again (seems like that kill all the process), so, Shawn it´s up to you now, we try and post the result, we will be waiting.. by the way NICE WORK bro!! don´t forget if you have the time fix the chat balloons (make those a little more wide)
Please raise your problem to the issue system and also list the applications you installed if possible, for example, apps for SMS/Call block, input methods, or calldata...
Hi Shawn, great work. I am too chicken to make iSMS the default app. But it would also be nice to fix the contact search ... make it like apple's SMS app and it would be fantastic.
Also can we have an option to switch off bubble chat? And I hope you have time to look into the following if bubble chat is the only option:
1) Bubbles are not wide enough, so they are too tall and long 2) The text input field does not expand as more text is added, so text just scrolls along 3) The send key should be placed at the top ... too easy to accidentally hit it when deleting typing errors 4) Add delete SMS or forward SMS directly in this mode 5) Text input (not sent yet) is lost after receiving a call 6) Can I suggest input text directly into a bubble? Or dispense with the bubble. So each message fills the entire width of the screen sequentially 7) A character counter
I think you have done a wonderful job and the above are just something I think that would make the app even better. They are not criticisms.
Have a good day.
Hi Shawn, iSMS 1.0-rc22-snapshot-04200123 was solved the hanging springboard if receive the message ( i use iSMS as a default SMS app ). Also fix the bubble chat. This great!. But i need a character counter if i reply the message. Hope you can fix soon.
Really luv iSMS, distorsi
Any ideas how I can fix my problem above, I would really like to get isms as my default app Thanks
Hi Shawn, some comments from me on the new build 1.0-rc22-snapshot-04200123
1. When the first message comes from a sender there is no problem. message alert is ok, springboard is ok. 2. When the second message comes from the same sender, then there is no message alert (no sound/vibration). Just the display shows a new message. 3. The notifier works well with the SB helper enabled. 4. The new message with on the springboard is left-justified. Would be better if it was centre-justified like the default apple sms.
I've installed the last update that I could find in the installer on 22.03.08, last night.. after the update, when I exit the installer app, it restarts the springboard as usually, but the spining wheel never stoped, so I had to reset the phone. now, after the loading apple logo dissapears, my springboard just freezes whithout even showing up the gsm operator logo.. how do I fix my phone now? is there any ways to do it with no need for restore?
On 1.1.4: How I solved problems with SpringBoard? hanging after installation from installer. May be it will help somebody.
Problem: I installed 2008/04/18 snapshot(before it I uninstalled the previous version and reboot iphone), then I enabled SBHelper and restarted SpringBoard?. Unfortunatelly SpringBoard? freezed and hang.
Solution: I fixed .plist file, disabled SBHelper in iSMS preferences, invoked #./iSMS -install, restarted SpringBoard? and enabled SBHelper in iSMS UI. This has helped me. Now all works fine!
P.S: May be installation script for Installer.app contains some bug?

You can restore it !
1. Download via iBrick, PC Suite etc. file- "/System/Library/LaunchDaemons?/com.apple.SpringBoard?.plist" 2. In this file you should remove text ":/Applications/iSMS/iSMSHook114.dylib". 3. Upload the file and reboot (soft reset - holding home button press sleep button for 10 seconds) 4. all is ok ;) 5. read me previous post and try to enable iSMS helper ;)

Can we find stock "com.apple.SpringBoard?.plist" somewhere, I have lost it, and dont want to restore. Already restored a couple of times in last few days because of iSMS. My phone is stuck with the apple logo :((
If you found that the entry in springboard launch plist is using iSMSHook.dylib instead of the iSMSHook${version}.dylib, then there must be some problems.
But I believe it's not iSMS's installer script, but may be caused by the installer queue cache ?
Honestly have no idea about that strange installation problem. I have checked the isntaller script and it looks ok to me.
