AWESOME! Is there a way to send a CTRL+ALT+DEL like realvnc to logon to locked desktops? If not thats a BIG feature/usability plus.

Comment by hottschott, Sep 18, 2007

wow, incredible...i got the mouse support to work, seems if you spread your fingers just a little apart, it scrolls much better than stuck together. will there be a right click someday? and this might be a very stupid question, but is it possible to use vnsea and tightvnc in seperate networks, such as can i be on my edge network, and login to my comp at home? i could only get it to work when i jumped on my wireless on my iphone..then i was able to view and move around, but is it possible on the edge network? or another wireless network? if its already possible, how do you do it? hottschott@gmail.com thank you

Comment by dannyzumwalt, Sep 19, 2007

Have you guys considered using JollysFastVNC instead of Chicken? From my experience Jollys is MUCH faster.

Comment by crflit, Sep 19, 2007

Ctrl-alt-del is coming, as is right clicking and typing and all the usual features :)

hottschott: I use vnsea to connect to my Mac at home over EDGE. It's slow, but not unusable. It helps a lot if you cut the pixel depth down from 32-bit to 16- or 8-bit. As far as crossing NATs and routers to get to your computers, I can't help you there... :)

dannyzumwalt: Interesting that you think Jollys is faster. I just did a quick comparison, connecting from work to both my remote Mac server at home (cable modem) and to the PC next to me (gigabit). The connection to the Mac was about the same between Chicken and Jollys. But connecting to the PC surprised me: Jollys was terribly slow compared to Chicken!

Also, there's the minor problem that Jollys is not open source.

Comment by jcy1971, Sep 19, 2007

how can i exit a vnsea session? is hitting the home button the only way?

Comment by wbieneklaptop, Sep 19, 2007

Bravo dude.. Keep up the work.. This is the one thing that's keeping me on the 8525 instead of the iphone.. I neeed to be able to use VNC to admin servers.

Comment by jonserr, Sep 19, 2007

NICE, i too use edge to connect to my mac at home using vnsea. yes it is slow but doable. it will get faster. Is there a way to open a file on the desktop with a double-tap or click.Instead i wrote applescripts and put them on my dock to automate opening windows and such, as a quick work around.

thanx again, great job!

Comment by smolenicky, Sep 20, 2007

is there a chance you'll make it a server as well?

Comment by crflit, Sep 20, 2007

jcy1971: yes, for now the home button is the only way to exit.

jonserr: honestly, I'm not sure how much faster it will get over EDGE; probably not much. and double-clicking will be fixed hopefully in the next release. i'll add a defect for it.

smolenicky: probably no server, at least for now.

Btw, about Chicken vs. Jollys... I'm surprised at the results of my little test (just did it again to make sure), since I've seen the Jollys demo video, which is certainly impressive. I'm curious what setup the author used to for the video.

Comment by jcj3582, Sep 20, 2007

what is the best way to connect to a pc? Chicken is only for Macs right?

Comment by parab01ek, Sep 21, 2007

This is really awesome. I am impressed. Keep up the good work.

Comment by greengunth, Sep 21, 2007

This software is amazing! I've only had one issue so far. My LCD monitor is actually 1920 x 1200 running the latest Tight VNC, and in this resolution, the iPhone VNSea graphics look all garbled.

It works at 1600x1200 and 1680x1050, but not 1920x1200. Maybe not enough memory is allocated to hold the data in the iPhone for such a large screen size?

Setting pixel depth on either the server or VNSea appears to have no effect.

Comment by fsaeed2000, Sep 23, 2007

This is really amazing app. First time MAC user (iphone). Just one question so what I understood that there is no way to start any application remotely. I tried all the options that windowingly possible. What is the work around to actually running (or double clicking to start) an application. I'll appreciate the response. Keep up the good work

Comment by mail4david, Sep 23, 2007

This is working vey well. Thanks for all the effort. I look forward to the updates.

Comment by Onijin, Sep 23, 2007

Most excellent app, sir! No more having to trick the thin clients at work into installing TightVNC on a virtual machine! Once keyboard and MAYBE zoom (scroll works well) are implemented, this is gonna be one of those killer apps we've all been waiting on.

How do I install this pxl file? Do I have to go through installer.app to install this thing?

Comment by rasbill, Sep 29, 2007

using this program the last couple of days and loving it, i'm not trying to complain, just add my 2 cents, and wondering what would be the easiest way to add funtionablity without being a pain in the ass to code well what i came up with is this could use a small menu down the bottom of the screen with buttons specifying whether a click is a single or double click, a button to bring the keyboard up, a control alt delete button, a button to control whether to drag the mouse or scroll the screen, and this program would have alot more functionality oh and to be able to select what port you connect on would be nice too, i hate to complain about the password when you already told us you want to get the program working more 1st, but its hard when i want to show people how cool it is when im afraid to because my password is visable

Comment by ThomasErvin, Oct 02, 2007

Absolutely fantastic work! I would like to know if you have any interest in develop an rdp client alongside this project (or even as a second protocol choice). In my experience, rdp is usable even at 56k speeds. This gives me a lot of hope for EDGE connections. I realize that rdp will probably not be a priority fpr you, at least for a while, but I wanted to make it clear that there are people interested in that type of functionality. If you have the time I suggest taking a look at rdesktop, it compiles on arm and OS X I can't imagine there would be too many issues compiling on the iPhone. I hope you keep up the great work on the vnc client!

Comment by c...@neejean.org, Oct 02, 2007

I've found that if you tap rapidly about 6-10 times in as close proximity as possible it picks it up as a double tap. The reason why may be because it is moving the mouse then clicking so you must tap rapidly on the icon to make it recognize 2 clicks.

Comment by g2motiondesign, Oct 13, 2007

Great program.... similar to iPhone Remote... though without being able to pan/zoom it is hard to do much with it.

This responds much better though and hope to see it mature quickly.

Keep up good work.

Comment by regikono, Oct 27, 2007

Dear, marvelhous program. One trouble: at the 0.4 version, the Pixel Depth "8" dosen't work on the iPod Touch. Other comands for this version are woring fine. Thanks!

Comment by john.p...@cox.net, Oct 30, 2007

Trying to run with iPhone 1.1.1 and it does not display the hosts list... It just crashes and returns to icons... Worked with iphone 1.0.2 is this an issue you are aware of???

Comment by loujob, Oct 31, 2007

This software is amazing. When 1.0 comes out I'll definitely donate. If you allow donations.

I was wondering if I could get this to work with the DSM plugin "MSRC4." Where do I put the key file?

Comment by glennkreisel0, Oct 31, 2007

We have added pan/zoom, landscape, robust keyboard support and many many more things. Version 1.0 should be coming out this weekend.

Stay tuned!

Comment by loujob, Nov 02, 2007

Does VNsea allow file transfer? Or will another version allow file transfer. Or to click on a file and have it stream to your iphone, similar to the streaming of files through apache?

Comment by aphylotus, Nov 03, 2007

Would be great to also have the VNC Server ported, so that we can access the iPhone via VNC from a PC or a Mac.

Very usefull when the device is in the cradle, so you can interact with it without need to touch it. Also great, as my Touchscreen on the lower end is not working anylonger, to access all the buttons there, while connected to the Mac or over WLan.
Would be very cool
Tom
Comment by loujob, Nov 03, 2007

Wooooh cant wait for 1.0. I'm so excited

Comment by loujob, Nov 04, 2007

Wow this is an amazing release. Do you guys accept donations?

Comment by ice.cream.man.and.flying.eggs, Nov 04, 2007

Incredible. It's a little slow to refresh on the screen for Mac OS X, but I like playing around with this kind of stuff. Ah, what fun.

Comment by glennkreisel0, Nov 05, 2007

Try 16 bit or 8 bit screen color depth.

Comment by jwa999, Nov 05, 2007

Didn't have any issues on VNCsea 0.4 connecting to ultravnc rc 18 for windows. With version 0.5 it sofar crashed 2 servers. And oddly, the vnsea on the iphone started to display the welcome screen on the iphone (wallpaper+iphone statusbar)

Comment by glennkreisel0, Nov 05, 2007

Any certain events that crashed it? On connect? While you were doing someting?

Comment by glennkreisel0, Nov 05, 2007

jwa999 can you enter an issue from the Issues tab above.

thanks

Comment by stasis, Nov 05, 2007

I was previously using web vnc through my iPhone. While I prefer the native iPhone interface, I like the functionality of some of those web features a bit better.

For instance, they have an application switcher, where you can pick the app running from a full screen list. It's too aggravating trying to click on the start bar to find the application.

Also, scroll around the screen is a bit of a nightmare with v0.5. Sometimes my two fingers will zoom instead of scroll. Personally I think you should make a "click" on and off switch, and use the standard single finger slide to navigate around the screen. And then when you want to click you turn on the click function with a button. Or maybe make it like the web version, and just click on a tap, and not when you drag or slide.

All in all, you've created a great application and I look forward to future updates. Do you have a donate link? Thanks for your time, -Rob

Comment by ice.cream.man.and.flying.eggs, Nov 06, 2007

crlift said that he uses EDGE to connect to his Mac. It's good to know that it is possible to connect from another network, but it would be even better to know how to do it. I use a PowerBook? G4 10.4.10 Tiger. If you know how just drop me an e-mail at ice.cream.man.and.flying.eggs@gmail.com. You guys have been great : )

Comment by MarieBee, Nov 08, 2007

I have to agree with stasis here. It's really hard to move around the screen with two fingers. It's zooming and panning sporadically for me.

It works great in the "view only" mode. I think it should work just like that in the normal mode. I find that I'm accidentally clicking every where on the screen too! Like stasis said, make a "left click" button, just like the "right click" button. That way you can move around the screen freely without worrying about clicking on something on accident. Then when you are ready to click, just hit the new "L" button.

There's a few different users over at modmyifone.com that are saying the same thing as well.

http://modmyifone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5412&page=3

Thanks for your hard wor. I'm anxious for new versions and hope you'll take our feedback into consideration!

Comment by loujob, Nov 08, 2007

I've never had the problem of accidently clicking on something. I like the way it is

Comment by sho...@yahoo.com, Nov 15, 2007

It's cool work.

Comment by k...@direktdesign.net, Dec 08, 2007

Hey! Awesome app. I have a Windows Home Server running with TightVNC on. I can connect to the server and Press Ctrl + Alt + Del. But when i'm trying to bring the keybord up nothing happens... Any ideas?

Comment by glennkreisel0, Dec 08, 2007

Humm. YOu should be able to click the "keyboard" button on the status bar and get the keyboard to come up. Once the keyboard is visible all keys go directly to the remote server.

Comment by glennkreisel0, Dec 09, 2007

In version .61 I have added the ability to doubleTap on the top statusbar to toggle between view only mode.

I think this will help address the usability issues during a connection.

Comment by lp_jer...@yahoo.fr, Dec 17, 2007
version 0.7 is just wonderful, you can strikethrough the 76 issue! it works perfectly for me now,I find it really easy and simple to switch between the scrolling and the interacting mode this way!

thanks for your great job, I will donate as soon as release 1.0 is out.

Comment by markus.lucassen, Dec 30, 2007

Chris, Glenn, some error/warning messages aren't outsourced in the "Localizable.strings", e.g. when you'll add a server with an empty "server name" or "address" you'll get an error box which shows a non localizable message "Server Name Field is Empty Server Address Field is Empty". If you could separate the strings into the "Localizable.strings" then they could be translated as well.

All the best for 2008 Markus (vnsea @ lucassen . de)
