Could you give us package repository for apt/yum?
Dudes... I am a Windows user. Is there any future plans to make Win version too?
where are the SRPM and the source of the deb?
Can this client be used to to run a VM on local device storage?
for x64 ?
While we're not currently planning on doing OS X or 64-bit Linux binaries, the next release should build on both of these platforms out of the box (presuming you have X and Gtk installed for OS X).
We don't have any plans on porting this version to Windows, since there's already a Windows client.
There are build rules for building the rpms and debs instead of a .src.rpm; you can run 'make rpms' or 'make debs' to build them after configuring the source package.
As for the package repos, I'm sure there's a request open for Google Code to supply that, but at this time we don't have any plans to add that.
Thanks for your comments!
Does anyone know how to create a linux boot disc with this client so you could render a PC into a dumb terminal?
I haven't done the View client yet, but for similar tasks I've had a lot of luck with the "Slax" distro.
don't start :(
Invalid response from broker: Malformed XML.
The debian packages does not connect on a 64bit installation with ia32-libs.
error message: Invalid response from broker: Malformed XML
I have the same error ->
Invalid response from broker: Malformed XML.
my log:
Initialzing connection to broker https://x.x.x.x:443 vmware-view| LOCALE de_DE.UTF-8 -> NULL vmware-view| Busy: Getting server configuration... vmware-view| Cancelling 0 Broker XML requests.
"Malformed XML" errors usually mean that you're trying to connect to a server that is not a View/VDM server. This client only works with these servers; you cannot connect to ESX, VMware Server, or MS Terminal Server.
If you are connecting to a View/VDM server and get this error, please file it as a bug/issue.
Yes, just use 'http://<server>' for the address.
Anyway to eliminate the TFTP requirements by storing the VMViewConfig.default file on the CD?
Are you guys aware that some time ago, I've uploaded vmware-view-open-client packages to Debian? Imho there's no need for you to produce .debs on your own anymore..

No, I wasn't aware of this, thanks! We very well may stop publishing them in this case.
Would be awesome to have an Android View Client!!!
Does the latest version work with View 4? Has anyone tried? Thanks. It is hard to get View Manager 3/3.1
Any solaris 10 sparc client available yet??
Just want to share View Client binary re-packaged as SLAX module http://www.slax.org/modules.php?action=detail&id=3481
I am using the open client 4.5 beta on Fedora 12, connecting to a View 4 server. It works great with the RDP protocol to XP and Vista virtual workstations. I have not tried connecting to a Win7, but the word is that Win7 will be supported properly in the View 4.5 server.
I have a boot CD, that I created using Suse Studio that I can boot any PC with an Intel 586 or better processor and at least 256M of RAM. Does not run on AMD K-6 systems.
Bootable suse linux that autoloads open client 4.5 is availble at http://susestudio.com/a/cfASRU/pjs-vmware-open-view-4-small
I have installed openSUSE 11.2, downloaded the latest VM open client tar and rpm files. I have followed the instuctions on the following pdf. http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:GaTn5Qyhg_sJ:www.vmworld.com/servlet/JiveServlet/previewBody/3919-102-1-5034/pc_to_thin_desktop.pdf%3Bjsessionid%3DF7661C406839259A33E01ADEB69E0961+repurpose+PC&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESjkm8jyT0tBPZjOyXNuRO7Mv2JQpP5CT2REM4IHNI18-_91J_-vmpXLTFzY-XaG2V0PoJZE-KSPYp7PrIlIaI6KCf_EFBq2Yp3FrDmVrmmTHDFaqzsTdXhPyEAX02P1c4XwBRQ2&sig=AHIEtbTFbFVEFwfS27dme7VCazXPocjlmA
I would like to create a bootable CD that will run a motd/banner with an AUTHORIZED ACCESS ONLY msg then lastest vmware client with specific configs.
Are there any instructions to help me acheive this? Can anyone provide any help, please?
I am also trying to do the ^above. I want the View client to automatically connect to my server. But I don't know what the command line options are for vmware-view. Where is the list? The only one I know is --fullscreen.
Try "vmware-view --help". You can see all command-line options there.
Perfect
