Welcome to the VMware View Open Client project page!

VMware View Open Client lets you connect from a Linux desktop to remote Windows desktops managed by VMware View. It is available under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1 (LGPL v 2.1).

Compatibility

This release is compatible with VMware Virtual Desktop Manager (VDM) 2.0, 2.1, and VMware View Manager 3.0 and 3.1.

System Requirements

The binary packages of VMware View Open Client available for download require an i586 compatible processor, two megabytes of secondary storage, and 128 megabytes of RAM.

VMware has actively tested this software against SUSE Linux Enterprise Thin Client (SLETC) and Debian 4.0r3, however it should work with any Linux distribution that meets the minimum library requirements.

Licensing and Support

Anyone can download, use, modify and distribute VMware View Open Client under the terms of the LGPL v 2.1.

Support for the VMware View Open Client is provided only by this community. No commercial support from VMware, Inc. shall be provided.

However, end users and customers of VMware View interested in receiving commercial support for their deployments should only use VMware Ready Certified Thin Clients.

Thin Client Partners

This client has been optimized for thin client devices and is encouraged for use by thin client partners. Partners are encouraged to use this open source software to develop clients fo non-x86 platforms, or operating systems other than Windows XP/e or Linux. Partners interested in certifying Windows XP/e or Linux x86 based thin clients should continue to use the commercially available VMware View Client for Windows or Linux.

Thin client devices which include a VMware View Client built upon the VMware View Open Client must be certified under the VMware Thin Client certification program to receive VMware commercial support under the terms of your applicable support contract. Please contact vdi-cert-support@vmware.com with any questions regarding this.

If you distribute VMware View Open Client unmodified in either binary or source form or the accompanying documentation unmodified, you may not remove, change, alter or otherwise modify the Marks in any manner. If you make minor modifications to VMware View Open Client or the accompanying documentation, you may, but are not required to, continue to distribute the unaltered Marks with your binary or source distributions. If you make major functional changes to VMware View Open Client or the accompanying documentation, you may not distribute the Marks with your binary or source distribution and you must remove all references to the Marks contained in your distribution.
