FAQ
F A Q - Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: What is Vidnik? A: Vidnik is an OS X application program. With it, you can easily make movies using the camera built in to your Mac, and upload them to your YouTube account. If you don't have a built-in camera on your Mac, you can use a Firewire or any Quicktime compatible camera. Q: I have a comment or a question. Where should I put it? A: Please put it in the Vidnik Google Group. Q: I want to report a bug. Where should I report it? A: Please put it in the Vidnik Issues List. Q: How do I get my movies out of Vidnik? A: (Control)-Click on a movie thumbnail and you get a popup menu of commands that apply to the current movie. One is "Show in Finder". This reveals the movie clip file in the Finder, so you can do whatever you want with it. Edit it in another movie program. Q: Can I use Vidnik to upload to YouTube movies I've made somewhere else? A: You can drag movies from the Finder into Vidnik's table of thumbnails, add the description, tags, title, and upload them all in a single press of the "Upload" button. Future DirectionsQ: Vidnik is OK, but I wish it did things differently. A: Heh, that's not a question! Vidnik is open source. You can fetch the source from this website, build it yourself, and change your copy as you see fit. If you make improvements that I can fold back in to the official Vidnik, email me, I'd love to improve it. SecretsHold down the (Option) key to reveal some rarely used menu commands: New File - create a new diary document. Most users will just continue to use a single diary document, so they won't need to make additional documents. Forget Account - Your username is normally saved in the diary document, and your password can be stored in your keychain. This command removes your password from the keychain and puts nothing in its place. |

If my youtube account was originally created with my Google account, is it impossible for me to sign in via Vidnik? The release notes say it only accepts a true youtube username, and I think I have one (youtube.com/user/myname), but I don't have a separate YouTube? password... so I get Sign-In Failed with Vidnick using my YouTube? name & Google Account password.
There appear to be a great number of folks having the same issue I'm having with Vidnik... the sound is out of sync with the video upon upload. http://www.technosanity.com/2008/05/10/vidnik-works-sort-of-right-out-of-the-box/
rob.lifford: +1. I can't seem to sign in; I use Google Account to log on to YouTube?.
Google Account versus YouTube? account: yes - my experiments show that the Google Data feed for YouTube?] for uploading videos won't accept a Google account, only a pure YouTube?] account. That's why I had the login dialog remove '@' from the log name.
aac sound versus mp3 sound: Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I didn't use MP3 sound for two reasons: (1) Apple doesn't supply an encoder, and (2) Fraunhofer demands a license fee?], even for free apps.
This is a great little app... and the YouTube? vs. Google account was a hinderance but no big deal...
... however, it doesn't work on my iMac running 10.4.11 with the following behaviors:
- video window delayed by about ~0.5 sec from source (me talking to built-in inSight...)
- no sound heard at all upon playback...
- crashes consistently when either Save, Don't Save, or Cancel is selected for the clip...
Should this be able to run w/Tiger? I sent the latest crash log to Apple but don't expect any help. I will try to find the time to rectify matters if you tell me that it is not tested - or is known to not work - with Tiger...unless, of course, you indicate that it's using Leopard-specific functions (I'd appreciate the heads-up...).
Hi, does anyone know how to login if you only have a google account? Is it simply impossible? Cheers
n...@extropy.net: It would appear that at this point, Vidnik cannot be written to support Google accounts, only "pure" YouTube? accounts. This makes it 100% useless for me.
Of course, iMovie '08 can capture movies from an iSight, and can upload directly to YouTube?, even with a Google account. So if you have iMovie '08, you can achieve a very similar result.
will vidnik ever be able to handle external cameras? thanks...
If you don't have a built-in camera on your Mac, you can use a Firewire or any Quicktime compatible camera.
did everything by the book, recorded video filled in all data but it refuses to do anything, it says "needs Movie" but the movie is there? also tried by dragging the movie over the program , it sayd the same "needs movie"
dr. of dance, had the same problem and solved it by making some space on my very full hard disk
I can't upload my files to Youtube
