Installing the Debian-based Versabox

The steps for installing Versabox are mostly similar to the steps for installing NitixVirtualServer (NVS), which you can read about in the Nitix Knowledgebase. (You can install both Versabox and NVS on the same server if you want.)

You will first need a Nitix system to install into. If you don't have one yet, try the FreeNitixTrial in a VmWare session.

Specifically, the steps are:

  1. Download versabox-sarge-0.2.0.zip (about 43 MB)
  2. Unzip the contents. A folder named Sarge.pkg is produced.
  3. Drag the Sarge.pkg folder to \\SERVERNAME\autoinstall (where SERVERNAME is the hostname or IP address of your Nitix server).
  4. Go to the SoftUpdate page in Nitix's WebConfig.
  5. In the section "Add-on packages available for install:", click the Install link next to the entry for Sarge.pkg.
  6. Watch the installation process from the Nitix WebConfig status page.
  7. When installation is complete, you should see a green light and a line that says "Debian (Sarge): Running" in the Virtual Server section.

Now you probably want to ConnectToVersaDebian.
