issue 6 (Firefox on Ubuntu doesn't hadle veoh links) Status changed by david.konsumer   -   Attached is screenshot. On that particular movie I get an "internal server error", not sure why, but it does work on others like this: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v17247789e9PqkNN7 I have noticed this alot, and need to figure out what is causing it... The plugin is very much in beta, and I would really appreciate testing and better movie support. XPIs are just zip files. have a look at content/app.js for the code that does the work. Firebug helps. Also, it's checked into the "Source" section of this project. Here is my plugin on mozilla: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10475 You need to login (create free mozilla dev account), as it is sandboxed, this is the same as the one on the downloads of this project.

issue 7 (Veoh made some changes to their system) commented on by david.konsumer   -   No, veohproxy is based on my code, and it stopped working the other day (they turned off the old system of gathering pieces.) Honestly, I'm not sure I understand the point of veohproxy (seems simpler to just actually download veoh movies directly, rather then proxy through another layer) I think veoh doesn't support downloading the full-quality movie, anymore, at least in any way I have been able to figure out. The webtv thing seems to just stream lower quality FLVs. I worked out a new system, though, that is even simpler to use, and works without any extra software (python was tricky for my windows friends). It uses the ipod url (which is a MP4 file, or at least is named that way...) I'd like help and testing with it, to make it even better (I am not a firefox plugin/xul guru) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10475 It seems to work ok, for full-length (albeit lower-then-original-quality) movies.

Don't know any other way of contacting you. Anyway, I noticed that veoh has made some changes to their system. Does this code: http://code.google.com/p/veohdownloader/source/browse/trunk/veoh.py work with the latest veoh changes? I'm trying to fix gerkensm's veohproxy. He hasn't updated it for ages... Hope you can help me. Thanks in advance. Regards,

issue 6 (Firefox on Ubuntu doesn't hadle veoh links) commented on by david.konsumer   -   Ok, I added a new download to the main page. It's a simple firefox plugin that will allow you to download any http://www.veoh.com/videos/BLAH movie. It adds a link to pages it knows how to mess with. If you have know-how with javascript, especially firefox plugin development, make sure to look at the xpi, and add any improvements you come up with. Currently, it just grabs the ipod URL, which seems to be the only level of quality they offer for download.

I am working on a pure-firefox plugin, so no python needed, or anything else, just firefox. For now, you can just change the veoh url in your location bar from http:// to veoh://

issue 6 (Firefox on Ubuntu doesn't hadle veoh links) Status changed by david.konsumer   -   Yep, no problem, glad it works. This maybe should be filed as another issue, so other people can find it (speed.) I tested on a Mac and a Windows machine and my script was faster then the veohtv client, and the older official veoh client in both cases, so I guess it may just be a problem with the veoh servers. I have noticed that it seems to get in the groove on larger downloads, and picks up speed as it goes, so it may also just be that the test URL is so tiny.

issue 6 (Firefox on Ubuntu doesn't hadle veoh links) commented on by david.konsumer   -   Ah, right. This is the firefox issue I was talking about. I'm not sure why it doesn't just use veoh_downloader_gui, I am setting up the protocol handler according to their docs. The way I made it work is browse for the installed veoh_downloader_gui.py (in usr/bin) and after that it will use it. The attached screenshots are that workflow, in a default profile setup. To change the settings after this dialog has gone away, go to Edit/Preferences/Applications, and find veoh in the list, choose "Other" and browse for veoh_downloader_gui.py.

issue 6 (Firefox on Ubuntu doesn't hadle veoh links) commented on by david.konsumer   -   The greasemonkey script does the conversion, but firefox should handle the veoh:// protocol. So, if you type {{{ veoh://www.veoh.com/videos/v6525744grmT6Jhz?source=featured&cmpTag=featured2&rank=0 }}} in the location bar, does it also download?

issue 6 (Firefox on Ubuntu doesn't hadle veoh links) commented on by david.konsumer   -   What firefox version are you using? I have only tested on the version that comes with Intrepid (3.0.5) I notice this happens occasionally to me, when I'm testing a new version of the script, I think it is an issue with firefox, but I'm not sure. Try this, and let me know what happens: * close firefox * move ~/.mozilla to some otehr folder (like ~/mozilla-old) * start firefox, and it should be a fresh setup. * follow about:config instructions, browse to /usr/bin/veoh_downloader_gui.py when it asks what program to use (when you try to download)
