The student chapter of IEEE at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign has built a mulit-touch computer screen using infrared light detected by a webcam. This webcam produces a grayscale infrared image with bright dots marking the user's fingers. This is similar to the Microsoft surface and the work done by Jeffery Han at New York University. We will develop image processing software using the OpenCV library to create a cross-platform API in C/C++. We will then use this API to develop applications that use multiple touch inputs. We will use robust detection and calibration algorithms to simplify configuration of multitouch screens. With this software in place, we want to develop applications such as games, office applications, painting/drafting applications, and many more. |
