Introduction

Beer pong is a well known drinking game where there are are usually 2 teams of 2 people competing to make the other team drink. Each team is stationed behind their cups at the ends of the table. Usually there are 9 cups on each teams side of the table (set up like a pyramid) and teams will take turn throwing or bouncing ping pong balls in an attempt to sink a ball into one of the opponents cups. When they sink a ball into a cup, one of the opponents must drink the contents of the cup. The game ends when one team has no more cups. The losers must then drink the remaining cups of their opponents.

Below is an example of the basic table setup:

Rules

General Info: To play the game there must be 2 ping pong balls, at least 18 cups (9 for each team) and a some sort of water filled container or cup in which to rise the balls off after they have fallen on the floor or leave the table. When a ball is made in the cup then the non-throwing team must drink it, but not necessarily right away as they can sip on it all game long if they wish.

Starting the game: To start the game off, each team chooses a player to represent the team. Each representative is then given a ball to throw. Then, while looking directly at each other and not the cups both players throw the ball. If someone gets it in then their team goes first. If there is a tie or neither player makes it in then the other player on each team tries. This continues until only one person makes it in, then their team is given both ping pong balls and they get to throw first.

Turns: After a starting team is determined the game starts. The starting team gets both of the ping pong balls (1 for each team member) and then they each throw their ball and try to make it into a cup. After both balls have been thrown, the other team gets the balls and they'll try to make it into the other team's cups. Also if a ball lands in a cup, then the non-throwing team must choose a team member to drink the contents of the cup. These turns continue until one team has no more cups.

Reracks: Each team is given 2 reracks per game. A rerack is called by the throwing team at the beginning of their turn usually when the cups they are throwing at are scattered and not close together. A rerack can be in any shape as requested by the throwing team.

Special Rules: These are some additional rules to the game that are only achieved under certain circumstances:

-If a team makes both of their balls into the same cup, then the opposing team must drink the cup that the both balls landed as well as an additional cup that they choose. Also they must give both balls back to the throwing team, who then get another turn.

-A team member may choose to bounce the ball off anything (the table, the wall, the roof, etc) and if the bounced ball lands in a cup then the opposing team must drink that cup and an additional one of their choosing. However if the ball is bounced, the non-throwing team may swat or grab the ball out of the air to prevent it from going in.

-If a ball is spinning around inside a cup (it hasn't touched the contents of the cup yet) then guys have the option to try and get the ball out with their fingers and girls have the option to try and blow the ball out of the cup.

-"on fire": This is called out if a player has thrown a ball into a cup three times in a row (usually spans 3 turns). If this is called then the ball is given back to that player and he or she continues to shoot the ball and get the ball back until they miss. This is very dangerous, as the opposing team must still drink all the cups that the ball falls into.

-"rebuttal": If a team eliminates all of their opponents cups, the opponents then have a chance to rebuttal. When this happens, the team with no cups gets an additional turn. If one of the team members make the ball into a cup, then the ball is given back to them and they continue to shoot until they miss. If both members miss and there are still cups with energy drinks in them on the table, then they loose and must drink all the cups left on the table. However if they manage to eliminate the other teams cups, then an additional game is played to determine a winner.

-"death cup": This occurs when someone makes a ball in a cup but the opponent who drinks the cup decides to sip on it instead of drinking it all right away. On the next turn of the person who sunk the ball into the cup; they have the option to aim for the cup that their opponent is sipping on. If they make it into that cup (death cup) then the game automatically ends and the non-throwing team must drink all cups on the table with energy drinks in them. In this case there is no rebuttal for the team that got "death cupped".

Details

Since the Hale Aloha towers are limited to freshmen residents, we plan to use energy drinks instead of beer to play this game. Additionally attached to the bottom or side of each cup there will be an energy literacy fact. We designed the game this way so that when someone has to drink they have to read the energy fact as well. Since we anticipate a pretty good turn out at this event, these facts provide an easy way for freshmen to increase their energy literacy while have fun.
