When requesting a /users/show/id.format API with a username that is
entirely numerical, it will instead return the info for the person
with that userid.

This issue could also be occurring with other API requests, but so far the
behavior has only been observed for /users/show/

Example:

There is someone with the username @415.

If I pull up http://twitter.com/users/show/415.xml I get the
information for someone named @justplayedvolleyball instead

Possible solutions:

1. Add an "override" parameter such as:
http://twitter.com/users/show/415.xml?force=username
to force the username lookup when it is known that request is for a
username and not a userid.

2. Default to matching a username first. IFF there is no match then return
the data for the equivalent userid.

3. Other?

This one is going to have to slip until our next major version, as it's a fairly far-reaching change.

Added user_id and screen_name parameters to /user/show so people can work around
this. I'll update the docs and send it to the mailing list.
