This is project is an attempt to revive the original Thinkpad Fan Control (aka tp-fan or tpfand) by Sebastian Urban. Unfortunately, the tp-fan has not been maintained since 2009, because of the author's lack of spare time. The goal of Tpfanco is to fix bugs in the original code and provide working deb packages for the recent Ubuntu versions. I'm not the author of tp-fan nor have I contributed anything to its development (at least until now). But as a Thinkpad owner and Ubuntu user I believe that it would be very sad to let Sebastian Urban's project fall into oblivion only because his real-life commitments interfere with the further development of tp-fan. Thus I decided to start this project to maintain tp-fan's code and create fresh Ubuntu packages. The name Tpfanco comes from a necessity to give this project a unique name, since there are also other projects that call themselves "Thinkpad Fan Control" Tpfanco uses the same license as the original tp-fan by Sebastian Urban, which is GPLv3 Current status: [20.05.2012] The project is alive and doing fine. At the moment I'm very busy finishing my college studies, but I've also been working on fixing Issue 1 and Issue 2. So far, Issue 2 is almost fixed, but Issue 1 requires a significant code rewrite of tpfan-admin, which I haven't done yet. I'm also thinking about adding sensors for SMART and NVidia graphics, but don't expect this to happen too soon. |
