Rationale

TouchType is designed to help people to learn to type quickly. It does this, not through the rigorous pushing of typing theory and methodology, but by subtly encouraging users to remain focused on the screen rather than the keyboard.

How to use

The task is a simple one. Read the words in one box, in the simple user interface, and copy them into the other. You're current, (moving average), typing speed will be measured and shown in the status bar.

Although the words you type will not resemble English text, the average number of characters per word will be comparable. Even so, you should not be surprised if, when typing real text, you're typing speed is faster than shown in this program.

Technical

The program is tested on Linux and should run perfectly fine without modification on any UNIX based operating system. However for other systems, you may need to specify a words file to use. That is, a file of words separated by newlines. TouchType uses pygtk.
