XPath Axes explanation

XPath Axes

Each Topic Maps API (TMAPI) construct provides some axes, these are explained in the following.

Construct

Axis TMAPI equivalent
.. getParent()
parent::* getParent()
iid getItemIdentifiers()

Reifiable

Provides all Construct axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
reifier getReifier()

Scoped

Provides all Construct axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
scope getScope()

Typed

Provides all Construct axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
type getType()

DatatypeAware

Provides all Scoped and Reifiable axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
value getValue()
datatype getDatatype()

Topic Map

Provides all Reifiable axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
topic getTopics()
association getAssociations()
child::* all Topics and Associations

Topic

Provides all Construct axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
sid getSubjectIdentifiers()
slo getSubjectLocators()
occurrence getOccurrences()
name getNames()
reified getReified()
type getTypes()
instance TypeInstanceIndex.getTopics(topic))
role getRolesPlayed()
child::* all Names and Occurrences

Association

Provides all Typed, Scoped and Reifiable axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
role getRoles()
child::* same as getRoles()

Role

Provides all Typed, and Reifiable axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
player getPlayer()

Occurrence

Adds no additional axis, see DatatypeAware and Typed

Name

Provides all Typed, Scoped, and Reifiable axes plus the following:

Axis TMAPI equivalent
value getValue()
variant getVariants()
child::* same as getVariants()

Variant

Adds no additional axis, see DatatypeAware
