List of SIP providers tested by the community.
Featured, Phase-Support
Updated Jan 13, 2011 by eofs...@gmail.com

In general, any SIP provider should work.

If you’re using Telephone with a provider not listed here, please share your settings in Telephone Discussions or in a comment below.

Please note, if you’d like to have multiple accounts and there are different STUN servers provided, you can choose any STUN server, it does not matter which one. STUN is absolutely independent service used to discover external IP address from behind the NAT.

Tested and working perfectly with the fritzbox from avm (http://avm.de)

SIP address: <number_chosen_by_your_fritzbox>@fritz.box Registry Server: fritz.box User Name: <number_chosen_by_your_fritzbox> Password: <your password for this account>

Additional hint: Sometimes the fritzbox has an dns-issue and the pc can't resolve "fritz.box" to the correct ip. In this case you can replace "fritz.box" with the the real ip in your network (in my case it's 192.168.178.1)

Works wonderfull and you're now able to answer also your incoming "analog" calls via sip-phone or your pc :-)

I just started using voip.ms for work. It's fantastic.

Very cheap and very easy to set up. Changes are applied instantly to your configuration. The billing setup is easy. You add money to the account and it just debits from your balance.

They also offer DID (direct-inward-dial) numbers for U.S. and Canada for a very cheap rate.

I second the nomination to add Vitelity to the list. I have been using Telephone with my Vitelity account for months now and it has been an absolutely flawless experience. I pay $3/month for a DID number ($1.50 for the number and $1.50 more for E911 service) and 1.1 cents a minute for inbound calls as well as for calls to the USA and the UK. All of the international rates seem to be rock-bottom wholesale prices, it's possible to activate and deactivate DID numbers on the fly, they offer cheap toll-free numbers, and I can even use a sub-account to customize my outbound caller ID to match my Google Voice number. 100% win.

Comment by kymserrano@gmail.com, Jan 26, 2010

Has anybody here tested Telephone with a DIY VoIP solution, such as a Milkfish'd router +/- the DynSip? service?

I really want to take all this technology's potential in that direction, liberating myself entirely from large corporate service providers (& their billing practices). To pay just one bill my data stream? is my Holy Grail!

Comment by jay.perk...@gmail.com, Jan 30, 2010

Kymserrano,

Take a look at the free http://www.sipsorcery.com service combined with Google Voice for free service. You can dial-out over google voice with that solution. Here is a great document on all of the free calling possibilities : http://bit.ly/7MMwGv
