If you’re lucky to have Google Voice account, you can use it via Gizmo5.

STUN Server is optional. Use it if you have one-way audio or no audio at all.

You also need to setup Google Voice and Gizmo5. Just follow these steps with Telephone instead of Gizmo5 application.

With this setup, can I use a usb phone like something from this site? http://www.ipevo.com/ or any usb phone for that matter

Thanks,

I haven’t tested USB phones with Telephone. Some of them might work as a generic audio device. But I don’t think ‘dial’ or ‘hang-up’ buttons will do their job.

This works great!

I do not think you meant to say Gizmo5 in the first line at the top of the page. Didn't you mean to say Telephone?

"If you're lucky to have Google Voice account, you can use it via Gizmo5."

Comment by project member eofs...@gmail.com, Nov 4, 2009

I mean that if you have Google Voice account, you can use that account (make calls from that account) via Gizmo5 service, which is the official SIP service for Google Voice.

Comment by ari.k...@gmail.com, Jan 1, 2010

Wow, this is so much better than Gizmo's standard client (which happened to make everybody sound like a chipmunk).

Comment by annonymi...@gmail.com, Mar 17, 2010

This page is confusing. I don't know what Gizmo is or if I need an account on it or how to get one. What's a SIP, what goes in the config. I have Google Voice, this does not tell me how to set up Telephone for it.

Comment by project member eofs...@gmail.com, Mar 19, 2010

Thank you, I’ll try to make it more clear.

Is it possible to utilize the GoogleVoice? Contacts?

Comment by project member eofs...@gmail.com, Apr 28, 2010

No.

@gopal.coimbatore "Is it possible to utilize the GoogleVoice?? Contacts?"

If you keep your local mac address book synchronised with Google Contacts, then yes, you can use your google voice contacts. They will be pulled up from the local copy, in your Address Book.

This makes no sense to me whatsoever. I already have Google Voice and I've been using it. What the heck is Gizmo5 and how do I set that up? In the google voice setup, I only see an option to change my google voice number, but there's no option to make it a gizmo number. If I follow the instructions here, I'm told to add a new number and make it my gizmo number. If I re-add my google voice number, google says the number has already been added (because it has). Do I need ANOTHER number? This makes no sense.

All I want is my cellphone number and a google voice number with a decent dialer that isn't a frigging web browser. I thought Telephone would be that, but apparently not.

From http://gizmo5.com:

"New user signup has been suspended and will return when we re-launch. To receive information about the re-launch please enter your email address."

Works with Google Voice, but when I check to have G voice also ring on Gizmo (thus on the Telephone app), the caller is sent to VM immediately, it does not ring and allow you to pick up. Anyone have this issue and solve it also?

Comment by elvey.ma...@gmail.com, Jan 19, 2011

@soarh...: Change your Gizmo settings.

Comment by fulldec...@gmail.com, Mar 27, 2011

Gizmo5 is gone. If there is another way to use Telephone with Gogole Voice, I would be very interested to hear

Comment by neoy...@gmail.com, Oct 4, 2011

Here is a way to use Telephone with Google Voice.

You need:

  • a phone number from www.ipkall.com (free)
  • a SIP account (free or cheap - I use callwithus.com)

Forward your Google Voice calls to your IPKall number. Configure your IPKall number to forward to your SIP account. Configure Telephone to use your SIP account.

This will give you free incoming calls through Google Voice to Telephone (or any other SIP client). You can also get free outgoing calls if you place the call through Google Voice - otherwise it will be placed through your SIP provider and they will charge whatever they do (i.e. 1¢/min).
