It would be great if I could select the codecs I preferred to use and remove the others.

On an ADSL connection with 0.17 Mb/s upload capacity, every caller complains that
they can hardly hear me.

Now I need to call them (back) with Skype.

I wish I could specify a lower bandwidth codec, is there a way (f.e. a config file
that can be edited) to use a lower bandwidth codec?

g711 need about 87.2 Kbps with every possible overhead scenario so this is 0,087 Mbit/s

The provider supports:
1. G711U, Ulaw, PCMU
2. G711A, Alaw, PCMA
3. G723
4. GSM
5. G729
Suggested RTP packet size: 20 milliseconds.

Okay, I'll see what I can do.

There are many times where i am in a situation where the network bandwidth is not
high enough to handle G711. Ability to switch to GSM will make the experience better.

I'm nomadic on a sat link which has very rigid limits depending on changing factors.
Ulaw sometimes works, but mostly GSM works better. Unfortunately, knowing Telephone,
using another app is rather painful :-)

For cases where one would want to use a high-compression codec like GSM temporarily due to a poor network
connection, I suggest having a global "low-bandwith mode" that could be enabled to switch all accounts to GSM.

Having a way to specify the codec priority on a per-connection basis would still be a valuable feature, so I
created a separate feature request for a "low-bandwidth mode":

I use Telephone on my laptop with a Mobile Broadband Stick (3G Network) for Internet connection.
iLBC would make my conversations very much better, and the Voip Providers I use support iLBC codec.
So I would like to be able to specify iLBC as my preferred codec.

That would definitely be an awesome feature to have...

Codec settings would be awesome. Because of certain cryptic reasons my router (a Fritzbox 7170) has an issue with handling calls from Mac to external lines. If I get called telephone works great, but when I try to call it ends spooky.
Somehow G.722 codec seems to be involved (if disallowed via e.g. jitsi everythings works - but I would like to stay with telephone.
