I want to use my iPhone as a remote control for my Powerbook G4 (now running the stereo, having been replaced in regular use by a MacBook? Pro) so badly that I can taste it. I'm starting, literally, now.

Any chance you can make the port number configurable since I it is easier ( for me ) to get port 80 through a firewall that I do not own. For example, I can use a public address 216.17.xxx.yyy:80 and at my end point to a private address my Mac is on and also modify the port number or leave it the same. 216.17.xxx.yyy:80 will get through most firewalls that I might be behind when I travel.

I found errors with the iTunes scripts that started with "tell application "System Events"..." If you just remove that part of the script so it is reduced to, tell application "iTunes" to previous track, it works much better.

It was working great 2 days ago, now "Safari can't open the page because it could not connect to the server". My web still works on the iPhone, so what's up?

I think an interesting feature would be to be able to use the iPhone as a microphone.

That way, if your mac was connected to a set of external speakers, you could connect using iPhone Remote, speak into your iPhone using the Mic app, or whatever it's called, and then output the mac's input through the output.

For security issue you should create a certificate for the Iphone that you deploy on the Iphone. Then you require this certificate with Apache. If you need help for that king of thing I'd be more than happy to. You guys did a great job so far

FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT TO SERVER i've finally found the solution. Besides forwarding the port you have to set your mac firewall settings too.

Goto firewall settings in system preferences then add a new firewall exception by clicking "New..." and fill in the blanks

i can connect to the app thru my macbook but when i try it on my iphone safari... i takes forever to load... doesnt load at all. what am i doing wrong? it used to work!

I think it would be fantastic if there was a seamless way to use Airtunes(Streaming music from iTunes to an Airport Express) on the iPhone. Enough said!

Great job Guys! I want to help out. i write applescripts , i'm a noobi in AppleScripts? Studio and have more than five years experience in Photoshop. i uploaded scripts for UniRemote?/EyeTV interface. spoke to neil said he will roll them over to Uniremote. I'm also working on an applescript(or automator whatever is easier).. for your mac to speak whatever is the content of an email with an assigned subject. or a pop window for text field and the script checks to the interval your set to and says it.

I tried the idea of activating iPhone Remote and turning ON "media share" with applescripts via mail. where can i post the script? just in case someone else wants to try it. I also tried accessing my media out of network and.. abrakadabra it's awesome man. songs/mp3s start after a couple of seconds, movies, it depends on the size of the file an episode of weeds started after a 30sec/minute. my question is what is the security flaw? if it ask for a user/password certificate.(im missing something here? innit)

Some nightmare scenarios to ponder...

For sure, do NOT disable the SSL. And during iPhone-Remote setup, pick an unique uncrackable password different from your usual password, as suggested. If you did not, goto Preferences and click on "Change Password" asap.

If the rest of this post is geek-talk to you, then simply make sure you quit iPhone-Remote when you don't need it. You really can not be safe enough, especially if you have any senstive info on you computer.

If someone knows or guesses the username, will it reject a brute-force password-cracking attempt? Any logs to show attempts? Sure it's a long shot, but if the bad guys get in, or any remote-attack vulnerabilities become known, they own your box.

The Terminal.tap (web-shell) is not quite working yet (0.9.2 Oct 2007): I can get a /bin/sh on http://127.0.0.1:8022 on box running iPR, but not from outside (even with 8022 open for a test). BUT, I would recommend you not use it or hide it: Anyone who gets a terminal shell can really take over your box without you knowing it... just google for "root-kit".

Yeah, it may seem cool to open up port 5010 on your home router, but I would recommend opening only 22 and/or use an ssh tunnel, iphone's vpn, stunnel etc.

On all my boxes I open ONLY port 22 (ssh), and use well documented ssh-security measures, such as scripts to populate Deny Hosts, etc to allow incoming ssh only from my local firewalled subnet. From the outside world, I allow ssh only to one heavily-secured, trusted, trip-wired, log-watchered host.

Once logged in via ssh, I can always start anything I need for a GUI, like osxvnc or iPhone Remote by typing: "open /Users/Shared/iPhone\ Remote.app/"

(I keep test apps in /Users/Shared instead of /Applications). YMMV.

How can I contribute some changes I've made to the code? I've fixed some bugs with the PHP related to indexing into arrays without checking if the index is set (this causes massive warnings to be displayed if your PHP server is set up to show errors, which mine is).

I would like to make you aware of a possible bug: Using the Screen.tapp feature: when i click on a certain point on the screen of the iphone, it doesnt correspond to the place that it clicks on my mac. Its pretty hard do describe. If i click in the lower right corner, my mouse on the mac is not there but somewhere half way. It seems like its "scaled". I have a screen with 1920x1200. The VNC-like feature is ridiculously amazing - pity the mac's screen isn't centralised on the iphone/ipod's screen.

To speed it up, there could be a 'view only' mode, where the images passed to the iphone/pod are scaled to fit it's screen....

Can somebody PLEASE add Audio Capture to iPhone Remote functionality?

iPhone Remote should be able to see AND hear.

I REALLY want a more feature rich remote, like Netopia or Chicken of the VNC, but for the iPhone. Not only do I want it I am willing to contribute money toward the development.

I'm trying to remotely control my computer from outside my local network. I'm using a BT Voyager Router 2091 and I think I've opened ports 5010 and 5012 but it says 'safari can't establish a secure connection' or just doesn't load it up at all. I really need some help cos its killing me that I can work it inside my local network but not outside it . Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Great app but everything works perfectly but when I close the iphone remote I can still access the server from outside my home I checked and iphone remote isn't in the processes. I've rebooted the iphone and when I connect to my mac at home I'm still able to even though I've quit the iphone remote?

How can it still be running if I quit the app?

The API i am coding on contains applescripts to control iTunes or your Light (needs the Indigo Server running); Motion Tracking via X10 motion sensors and a RFID Gateway. It is also possible to trigger IR signals to control "real devices" like your tv or a reciever (controlling iRed by Robert Fischer via applescript).
