sympy - issue #2806

Add more tips to the tips page

Posted on Oct 29, 2011 by Happy Elephant

We have a page of tips that we are compiling at https://github.com/sympy/sympy/wiki/tips. This should be really fleshed out, so that we have enough tips to do something interesting with.

For Code-In, we can create multiple tasks. Each task (easy) can be to create say ten tips.

I'm interested in taking up this task once I finish correcting your logo + making your Favicon (http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=2763). Would I need to download and use SymPy to write these tips or could I simply research and write up the tips?

It would be ideal to install it, so that you can verify that what you are saying is correct. And to get the tips, you'll need to look through the documentation, which exists at docs.sympy.org and in the docstrings of the code (help(function) when you are running SymPy). Or you can play around with it and add something that you discover yourself.

There was talk of making a twitter stream out of these tips. Both big and small tips are great but if you have a small one and can write it in less than 140 characters then that is excellent.

We could also do stuff like display a random tip at the top of the webpage or the docs.

That sounds like a good idea, it could be part of "improving the webpage" (or a separate GCI task).
