Version Control With Subversion
This is ground zero in terms of collaboration tools for the "Subversion book" project which calls http://svnbook.red-bean.com/ home.
About This Project
This project houses the official documentation of the Subversion project. This work was begun years ago by Ben Collins-Sussman, originally as a shorter document called The Subversion Handbook. It was expanded into the 300-page tome of knowledge that it is today by the additional authorship of Brian W. Fitzpatrick and C. Michael Pilato, in concert with an overwhelming amount of review and corrective contributions from many people around the world.
In 2004, the open source text (which covered Subversion 1.0 at the time) was picked up by O'Reilly & Associates for treeware publishing under the title Version Control With Subversion. O'Reilly printed a second edition in 2008 that covers Subversion 1.5. Between and beyond those printings, the greater Subversion community has worked together to keep this book up to date with respect to almost every major release of Subversion.
Version Control With Subversion is composed entirely in DocBook XML. The book maintains its open source license, and your contributions are welcome at any time.
Translations
The book was originally written in English, and English continues to be the language of primary authorship. But there are several ongoing efforts into translating the book into other languages, too. Some of those efforts call this project their home, too. Others maintain their own projects. Here are some of the external translation project homepages:
- French: http://svnbook.kryskool.org/
- German: http://www.svnbook.de/
- Brazilian Portuguese: http://code.google.com/p/svnbook-pt-br/
Archived Project History
This project has relocated a few times. We are currently trying to centralize our development and collaboration artifacts here, but some of the older bits of information may still live in the following places:
- Source code: Has been migrated here. For now, a read-only copy of the old history remains at the previous location (http://svn.red-bean.com/svnbook/).
- Wiki: We didn't make much use of this before, save for organizing the 1.5 version of the book. But if you need to use one, we've certainly got one now.
- Issues: Open tickets have been migrated here, but old tickets remain in a Trac instance located at http://svnbook.red-bean.com/trac/.
- Discussion: See http://www.red-bean.com/mailman/listinfo/svnbook-dev.
