search for 0x99. there are few if any hits.
search for 0x99<<. all issues are returned.
the << is doing something funny to the search,
like nulling it out completely.

Looks like an indexing problem of some kind.

The "<" character is reserved for a less-than comparison, but that part is not implemented yet, so the term is ignored.

We should give an error message to explain that to the user.

Even if we did not say that "<" is reserved, it certainly will not work. The search backend that we are using now can only search for words, not punctuation. Maybe we could do some kind of escaping so that the "<" character is transformed into a word that can be indexed, but it might be tricky to make an escaping approach handle word boundaries the way users expect.

I'd be happy if 0x99<< behaved the same as 0x99.
