Google Group is a good service I'm using for discussing about my GoogleCode
hosted project.
Actually the only way to let users know that does exist a dicussion board
related to my project is adding a label (Administration --> Discussion
group) that will be showed in the right side of the home page.
I think that such an important section of my project should be more visible
possibly in form of an upper label.
Why don't give the user the possibility to add a new label called "Forum"
to integrate with the others ("Project home", "Downloads", "Wiki", "Issues"
and "Source")?
It seems reasonable to me even because "Code" and "Groups" are two project
belonging to the same company.

If you have integration in mind, *please* first ensure that Google Groups do something about the unmasked publicly harvestable e-mail addresses.

<http://groups.google.com/group/Is-Something-Broken/browse_frm/thread/939a524886e590ec/> refers but I think Google Groups have not yet
appreciated how seriously upset some users are, when they find that their e-mail addresses have been disclosed.

Key point: such users do NOT intend for their e-mail addresses to be disclosed.

Google Groups might argue that the user simply needs to do "this" or "that" to resolve the issue, but that's not the point: if Google is serious about its Privacy
Policy then the issue should surely NEVER occur without the user's explicit permission. At least, make it clear to the new Group member that their address
may be harvested. (That last sentence defies belief! Better to not upset users in the first place...)

Thanks and regards
Graham

When creating a new project, google could present an option to create a Google Group
as well.

I agree with mcored... I don't create a hundred project a month, but it gets annoying
to start a new project, and create the google groups... I always create 4 lists:
issues, commits, dev and users, each of them with different configuration (web
archive for issues and commits)...

The option to create such lists could be offered in the creation process (as it
happens on Java.net)

This would be really awesome to have.
IMHO, this issue would worth a lot more stars.

Newsgroups are quite old and most people prefer forums like PhpBB or vBulletin.
CodePlex and Sourceforge have forum style discussion boards and I really hope Google
Code gets something like it too.

In our experience a GoogleGroup is better than SF-forums and even better than any
other kind of forums (the project I'm talking about is NHibernate).
Note: this is so true that we are using GoogleGroup even for development-list.

for me, Gogle Groups will be best form of forums when two conditions would met:

1) allow to format message using WYSIWYG editor like modern forum drivers allow.
actually, i want to have WYSIWYG editor available in all parts of project - Wiki,
Issues, Forum

2) put it inside Forum tab instead of going into entirely new page. it's important to
keep presentation of project as "everything is here" and external links just break
this abstraction

I should be a very useful feature. It is even better if a "blog" tab is integrated
with "Project Home" "Downloads" and others (at least as an option to have).
