Hi,
Sumatra Pdf does not open some Pdf files that Adobe/Acrobat can open.
Please see the attached Pdf file, it opens normally with Adobe/Acrobat and with Pdf Exchange Viewer but no other Pdf Viewer can open it.

Posted on Mar 14, 2011 by Helpful HippoThanks for the report. This file consists of a single XFA form contained inside the PDF document. Since we don't support any interactive PDF features (such as PDF forms or ECMAScript), supporting XFA forms doesn't make much sense at this point.

Posted on Aug 15, 2011 by Happy Hippowould be nice if SumatraPDF supported forms, its the only future that is missing, tabs is something you can forget, but having forms support is alot more useful

Posted on Oct 10, 2014 by Helpful HippoIn order to make this issue show up in search queries, here's the text that's commonly shown in XFA-only PDF documents:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html

Posted on Oct 10, 2014 by Grumpy ElephantBack in 2011 you wrote that SumatraPDF was not to support XFA. But seeing the number of merged issues over the years (and knowing that most people don't even bother to create one) I wonder if you might have changed your mind. Are there any plans to start supporting XFA any time soon?
Posted on Oct 10, 2014 by Helpful HippoThe XFA specification is about as complex as the PDF specification which we haven't implemented ourselves. We're currently simply too small a team to even consider tackling XFA ourselves - and AFAICT there are no open source implementations which we could include. If nobody else steps in, XFA support simply won't happen until http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=693446 has been fixed (which might not happen at all).

Posted on Oct 10, 2014 by Grumpy ElephantEven though I'm a programmer, XFA is way out of my league. But I suppose you know of these articles: http://www.lawandsoftware.com/blog/filling-xfa-pdf-forms-using-pdfbox/ and http://opensourcejavaphp.net/csharp/itextsharp/XfaForm.cs.html. If not, maybe they could mean something to you. Anyway I do understand your reason not to have it implemented in SumatraPDF. It's just a pity governments (e.g. Belgium) and organizations (e.g. Belgian Soccer Association) use this poorly supported technology forcing people to use the Adobe Reader monstrosity.

Posted on Nov 10, 2014 by Helpful HippoStarting with r9633, there will be an explicit warning about XFA being unsupported when opening such a document.
