The philosophy behind Substruct

Design Philosophy & Thoughts

Our main motivation is to help store owners make money.

We keep that in mind whenever working on the application. All barriers to a customer making a purchase are minimized as much as possible.

On the administration side, we believe it should be easy and clear to run your business. You should be given the tools you need, but the software should get out of your way.

What Substruct Is

By simple, I mean we include what's only necessary. We don't add features 'because they would be nice'. We add what we know will be useful for the majority of store owners out there.

We decided to release early and often.

We decided to approach this with a fresh mind and a clear outlook.

What Substruct Is Not

In short, Substruct is opinionated software.

Hey, you guys should add a demo store... :-)

Ok, http://substruct.subimage.com/store exists, but it is useless as a demo.

I can check out everything about the software except:

How products are displayed (no products) How it looks when I add a product to the cart What cart management features exist (delete item - saw on one site only of those in production) How the PayPal integration works/looks... (Have it go through Sandbox on PayPal so people could make dummy payments and not have anything charged) If it calculates shipping or anything..

Which pretty much covers the whole ecommerce project.. In other words, although I'd LOVE to have a ROR ecommerce site, I have zero idea if this will work for that or not!

It says it is a content management system - in what way?

By the way, what I can see, looks good.. I've written my own ecomerce store in Ruby that never went live... And I was looking for something that had more users beating on it daily...

Chert, log in to the admin console and add some products. They will show on the site.
