Changes a layer between solid fill and gradient fill in Photoshop CS4

Download Script

Photoshop CS4 took out the "Change Layer Content" feature, but the option of switching between solid and gradient fills on a specific layer is pretty useful.

This script, loaded in Photoshop, will switch the fill type of the selected layer. It will switch a Solid Fill to a Gradient Fill, and a Gradient Fill to a Solid fill.

Recommended use:

  1. Save to Adobe Photoshop CS4/Presets/Scripts/ (So script will show up in File>Scripts>Change Fill Type)
  2. Open Photoshop CS4
  3. Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts...
    1. Under File, select "Change Fill Type"
    2. Hit Shift+(Command/Control)+A
    3. OK

Now hit Shift+(Command/Control)+A to toggle the selected layer between solid fill and gradient fill.

Thanks

Thanks to Yasuyuki Higuchi and Scott Weichert for tips on how to reproduce the functionality by creating an action in Photoshop CS3 and then running it in Photoshop CS4.

Thanks to xbytor for writing a script that would convert an action into JavaScript to help understand what was really going on.
