You can use ctrl-V then I to insert a leading tab. However you still should
retab your snippets.

This Patch adds a Retab command which will ask you for shiftwidth (spaces
per tab). It will try to determine the value itself. You can confirm or
change it. You can also visually select your snippet and press <cr> to call
this command.
